i think he will bounce back. hopefully he gets off to a flying start in qualifiers to get his confidence up and can kick on from there

I so much want this hope to be true!

A lot has been made of his personal problems, does any one know if we have dedicated professionals to help players when they are suffering mentally? I know we have sports psychologists etc. but I assume they focus on aspects of mental health dealing with attitude to football/sport itself.

As someone with many mental health issues, I am lucky that where we work we have a counsellor dedicated to staff well-being. They can refer anyone to a psychiatrist when called for and, speaking from experience, there are times I want to go to work just to talk to her.

At the end of last season, I felt - probably wrongly - that he was trying way too hard and anything he tried was almost certain to go wrong.

Anyway, like us all I presume, I want him to return to form so badly that I end up getting more frustrated with him.
Well said, sir. You will also from your experience know that it can be hard to fess up and say that you're struggling. Keeping a brave face can mean that others are baffled about why your end product might not be what they expect especially when you come across as "bright and breezy".

Folks on here might make light of it, but things he had to contend with were the death of his agent (and I believe his personal mentor) Cyrille Regis, the family not being settled in one place and, if reports are true, the fact that this latest pregnancy was difficult. Yes, he earns loads and has what, in comparison to many, is a luxury lifestyle, but at the end of the day if things are messing up your head, the trappings of fame don't always cushion you.

Might be that he is a one dimensional player that the opposition figure out after facing a couple of times.

What personal problems does he have? Must have missed this, can’t mind a thing.
Maybe I'm wrong but I seem to remember that there were reports he was missing his family and wanted a move back down South, which was directly impacting on his game. Homesickness, missing family etc can really destroy certain people and would certainly contribute to the belief that something wasn't mentally right with him. His loss of form was more than just a tad dramatic although we have seen others go through it.
He was never actually that good.

His form with Celtic seems to have mirrored his career.

Periods of brilliance where he is very effective and long periods where he goes stale.

I remember visiting Villa forums when we signed Scott and they couldn't wait to get rid - wage thief seemed to be the attitude towards him.

Automatic pick in his first season but hopeless for the most part in the second - I think we have seen the best of him but I hope he can recover his form.

Villa ended up playing him at wing back, the fannies. He's no even very good at doing the defendy bit of being a winger.

Sometimes I ask myself how many of those ridiculing family issues as a factor affecting working life are parents themselves; regardless of your profession, your family comes first... above all.

Hope he kicks on next season but I imagine we’ll get more of the same as the opposition have him figured out. Can’t wait to see the next batch of excuses for his poor form.

Yeah life can be a bitch but you just have to get your shampoo together and get on with it..no?

The guy plays football for a living.

If he puts in a passable effort at training, which I assume he does,he only really needs to get his shampoo together for a max of three hours a week.

If he's on the pitch and can't beat a man because he's not on it because his missus ain't great, his mate died recently or his pal Stu ain't in the team he should put his hands up and say this ain't for me.

We could all sit here swap tales of woe about how shampoo our lives have been but very few of our employers/customers would give a shampoo.

He is paid handsomely,he is under performing and his private life is his problem.

This may come across as harsh but people in low paid jobs would get their baws rattled if they just dipped out at work, but sympathy should be extended to guy who gets paid over a million quid a year to do something thay love?

I'm sorry life don't work like that, not in my world anyway.
