It's not really.

In his debut season with us Naka had 7 goals in 41 appearances. Sinclair thus far has 16 in 34 appearances.
In general I'm not a fan of using stats in an argument but I don't think it's nonsense to suggest Sinclair is more effective than Naka.
Scores more goals = more effective?
Come on, he's more effective.

His work rate is excellent, he never stops moving and dragging defences all ways, he chips in with a lot of assists - maybe just as many as Naka - and scores more goals.

He also tracks back and tackles, a major flaw in Naka's game.

I love Naka, the guy had moments of pure genius. But Scott has a bigger impact on this current Celtic team than Naka had on his team.

We're a better team with Sinclair in it, Tierney and Dembele ( two of our best players) seem to benefit when Sinclair is playing.
He's got his share of assist, don't know how it compares to Naka though.

He's produced in big games for us.

His consistency is tremendous as is his work rate.

How do you measure how effective he is ?

By watching them?

Naka was a playmaker, Sinclair is an inside forward.
Sinclair plays with better players and a more rounded system whereas Naka held a team together for years with lesser players whose main tactic was just to give the ball to him.

I think Sinclair is more effective than Nakamura.

Sinclair does have a better side to play in though.

And a better Manager*. :ph43r:

I agree with both points - Game in game out Sinclair is more consistent and more effective.

Nah. Not by a long shot.

Naka had one very good to outstanding season with us. He was decent the rest of the time but he never again reached the heights or consistency of his POTY season.
In no way, shape, form or description did he hold a team together for years.
That just didn't happen.

I loved Nakamura. His passing was sublime and he found space to make and complete a pass where there was none. He also got absolutely no protection from the hammer throwers in the Scottish game.

I don't know who is better between Sinclair and Nakamura as, in my mind, they are different types of players who would have been great to watch in the same team.

Sinclair has hit the ground running.

Naka took a while to settle due to the physical demands here. Always a beautiful player to watch but there were times he struggled with that aspect of the game. Took him a while to make his mark in Huns games too if I remember correctly.

Was Sinclair ever in contention for a spot in the England squad? Considering how few English players actually get into the CL, a few more CL games and maybe he will be. If I am not mistaken, I think when he was with us, Gary Hooper was the only English forward to have scored in the CL one year, which brought him the Ray Hodgson's attention.
Although he is doing well for us, he is way down the pecking order for England. Sterling and Lallana are the default wide men for England and then there is a string of other wide men plus players like Sturridge and Rashford who England play in Sinclair's position. If he performs well in next years CL, he might get a call up for a friendly. It is just the way England managers view English players playing in Scotland. EPL, best league in the world don't ya know.
Alan Thompson and Chris Sutton both got cameo call-ups for England while they where with us. I think they played one half of one game. Fraser Foster as well.

Thommo, aye. Sweden I'm sure. Don't mind Sutton getting an England cap whilst with us.

Sutton was never called up for England with us.

Their loss.

He got 1 full cap. Refused to play in a B international under Hoddle iirc and that was it for him.

Probably in the minority here but as much as I loved Naka, at the time I always remember thinking he was inconsistent.

I was in my mid teens though and missing games regularly those seasons, so my judgement may be a bit out. :)

Which was ridiculous. Sutton had scored a goal every other game that season. Putting him in the B team was an insult.

I seem to recall he didn't hold back when asked about it in an interview up here, essentially called them idiots for dismissing him and Thommo because they played in Scotland.

Sinclair ain't better than Naka. Naka was played out of position, whereas Sinclair is played exactly where he wants under a manager perfectly suited to his personality.

Naka would have been marvellous to watch in the 10 role behind Dembele, flanked by Forrest and Sinclair. Although having Lubo there would have been even better.
