fair fecks to him

Abelardo has left his role as Sporting Gijon head coach, but refused a reported four million euros (£3.5m) in compensation.

Gijon are 18th in La Liga, after losing seven of their last eight league games.

Abelardo, 46, a Gijon native, played for the club for five years and took over as head coach in 2014.

"I don't have a problem writing off the money," said Abelardo. "There are more important things - loyalty to my club above all."

The ex-Spain and Barcelona defender, who was in tears during the news conference, will be replaced by former Girona, Valladolid and Levante coach Rubi.

Someone at hearts needs to send ian cathro for training on how to speak during a press conference. Watchrd his last 2 interviews and its more cringeworthy than david brent and the inbetweeners combined.

Might be a waste of time/money, he might not be there too much longer, another loss tonight in the Cup will hasten any potential exit.

Cathro is a Scottish pep / Jose. Don't see the problem. I'd rather he went mph aye whatever than listen to some of the carrots waffling on about pressing games

Just watched the one after the Raith game. I was embarrassed for the guy. Somebody has to arrange some media training for him; he couldn't speak.

Think I saw it at the time - am I right that when asked how disappointing the result was he denied he was disappointed? Bit of a strange stance to say that, after a draw with a lower league team where they've conceded a late equaliser. Came across like just being obtuse for the sake of it.

I think he said he wasn't disappointed but couldn't give a reason (or say anything) when pressed.

It's not a exaggeration to say I don't think I've seen an interview like it.

I remember Lars Lagerbäck being absolutely pummelled for pretty much the same thing after Sweden drew 0-0 with Trinidad & Tobago in the WC groups.

He does come across as a total fanny. For Hearts sake (ok for Rangers sake) I hope that he's a damn sight better at team talks than he is with his media commitments.

He sounds like he's forgotten English is his first language.

He does.

Wasn't approached initially to take the managers job and looks like he's going to make a carrot of it.

If Cathro's powers of communication are as poor on the training ground as they are in front of a microphone then Hearts are truly in shampoo street.
May just be nerves and inexperience but he does not come across well.

I heard him talking before the replay and his comments were full of, what I would call, management bulls**t. He is/was a highly regarded coach but it is one thing coaching when you have a strong manager above you, it is another thing to be the main man and lead. What he says to the press and how he says it means feck all if he has won over the players and respect him. It will impact on how the fans see him and as results haven't been great so far, the fans are rightly nervous.

Hearts are a well run side now, so I imagine he will be given time by the board but he does need to media training!
