Most SPFL Premiership players earn less than League 2 players down there.

There would be only a handful of players on £1000+ per week basic outside the top 4.
I know of a player in his mid 20s that was offered £200 per week to go full time with Hamilton.

He declined the offer and mentioning bills to pay, along with the fact he earns three times that in his actual job.
That's not even minimum wage, is it? :nono:

Even if Monster Much is right his comments are very irresponsible. He's instantly undermining the guy. Fat pumpkins like Boyd will be gutted that there's another coach who doesn't like people eating monster munch.

Kinda think we are in agreement. We invested in some pure pish for (for me anyway) for wrong reason’s by a board who took liberties with a loyal support. For me they should have invested in a proper manager and reaped the rewards of getting into the CL and pulling further and further away from Sevco with the CL money on offer and exposure then come the players of a certain calibre on the back of that when Lenny left. Short sighted from the board and the reason quite a few got frustrated with them . Cheap option they went for as you pointed out. Crowds would have stayed the same 50k ish after Lenny left if they had invested and started process of pulling away earlier – they chose to go cheap. Albeit they have pulled a few back including myself with getting a proper manager in now 2 years after Lenny left.

Results for getting a cheap manager and gash results on back of that as you point out in results in poor players such as Richards, Cole, Johansen (okay for 12 months), Mubarak, Tonev to name a few….

2 years a bit late without Sevco in league and after Lenny. We are miles ahead just now but I do get feeling it could have been slightly sweeter earlier if the board had acted quicker instead of going cheap and unproven manager in charge of the biggest club in the country.

Still loving our position just now all the same & Brendan has pretty much same pool of players as you say with different results and performances.

Have to disagree with you littlegmbhoy, Deila's reign was hugely damaging despite any attempt at revisionism.
"Hugely damaging" you don't half talk effing pish, man. How can winning two league titles in a row be considered "hugely damaging" on any level, outside of your elitist little world?

That implies he sold all of our best players, got us into major debt, set us back a decade and lost the league to a provincial club. Not one of those things happened. We hung about stratching our arses until the Huns came back. We were fairly stagnant come the end of Lennons time here and barring a 3-4 months spell under Ronny we had a similar malaise at the club. We stagnated, we didn't improve, but there was no long-term damage as we can evidentally see. Just as Brendan couldn't take the next level at Liverpool, RD couldn't take the level at Celtic. No shame in that - happens to many young coaches.

If we were in such a huge state then there's no way Rodgers would sort it out so quickly. Things were pretty average, yes, but drama queens like yourself made it out to be the worst Celtic team in living memory.

I caught Jamie Fullarton speaking about Cathro last week. Any idea why he came across so bitter and resentful?

Cathro, on his playing style: "I have numerous powerpoint presentations if you want to see my laptop..."

No way he said that....did he?

Never know with these young turks.
He did, trolling fatso.

Just seen it - Cathro conference.

Good on him! Boyd is not only ill informed, rude and a dinosaur but seems to have taken a recent mantle that he thinks he can shock you with no substance on some remarks he is coming away with. The attack and it is a verbal attack on Cathro plus trying to make Henke's scoring record against his look pale he is talking utter sh!te these days to get a reaction.

Poor show & people like him are part of the reason the national game is in a state its in.

Mubo's choice of phrase maybe a bit overboard but sure he can answer back at it. Big bhoy and all that.

Certainly not the worst Celtic team by any stretch. Only point I was making was full policy from board to, coaching staff and players last two years set us back a tad when we could have pulled further apart/away from rest and banked more money and got more trophies than we did. Ronnie nice guy and all that but he was was out of his depth.

Distant memory now we have BR & club all round is different from top to toe in every way possible.

When the last 16 season comes off of the coefficient you will see how damaging Deila's tenure was, especially the second season.

What exactly is Monster Munch's scoring record vs Henrik? Am I right in saying he's scored 9 SPL goals more than Henrik over a 10 year period vs Henrik's 7 years?

I just don't see how that's a record you could be proud of? :ponder:

Cathro's a very interesting appointment & fair play when the likes of Elvis or Hartley would have been easy picks.

How his ideas / methods will go down in Scotland remains to be seen. That said, he's not coming into a club that's a shambles on or off the park & him & Levein know each other very well, so unlikely to be problems there. Not having Scottish neds like Boydie & Wee Barry in the squad should probably help too.

Despite my dislike of Hearts, I do hope it works out from the point of view I want as many sides battering the huns & finishing above them as possible.
Absolutely, Cathro has done exceptionally well so far. This could be a success for him as long as he recruits a strong management team. MacPhee is too similar to Cathro in my opinion. I'd be looking at a team who's strengths are Cathro's weaknesses. Great to see a young Scottish guy pushing on with his life and career like this. I've followed his career for a few years now so it'll be class to see his work up close. If he can excel at the management side as well as the coaching side he'll be a superstar.

Be interesting to see what Cathro can do. Good coaches don't always make good managers, however, I detest Scotlands tall poppy syndrome so I hope he does well, except against us.

McPhee will be the one who'll control the dressing room. He's no shy retiring wall-flower either.

Looks like John Collins will get the Scotland performance director job.

He had a dig in his column and on BT (before/after Killlie game against us 2/3 weeks ago) about Henkes record and his (Boyd’s) was better domestically.

The fact he has the audacity to even try to put him up against THE best striker this country has seen tells you all you need to know. Obviously the fact he played for Rangers, Boro, Some Turkish mob no one has heard of for 8 weeks, Killie against Celtic, Barca, Man Utd & Feyenoord….kind of tells you all you need to know in head to head.

Given the crowds that Hamilton get that is no surprise at all.

A few years ago the then Partick Thistle chairman told me that his general rule of thumb was that if they got X,000 through the gate then they could pay their players a basic wage of £X00 per week. That was after they had come through their own financial hard times and were trying to run a tight ship.

He said that when they were in the Second Division they could average 2,000 at home, so £200 per week basic; in the First Division they could average 3,000 at home, so £300 per week basic; and in the Premier League 4,000 at home so £400 per week basic.

He knew that other clubs were paying a lot more at the time but he was not prepared to risk the club's existence.
