I know, Barrhead is better.

OT: He'll be on much better money now and will probably be getting money to spend in January. Not Alex Neill proportions, but a very good opportunity down there if he does well.

MK Dons

When will these managers learn that the English lower leagues are largely an abyss of complete nonentities.

More money? Fine. But go and ask Stubbsy, Caldwell, Pressley and many others how it all works out eventually.

Back managing St Mirren in 18 months.

I agree in some regards, but part of me thinks if I was in that position I would regret never taking the opportunity to prove myself.

He's as high as he'll ever get with Hearts and probably won't achieve anything better than the 3rd place spot of last year.

So to go to England and at least attempt to do something of note is the next logical step.

He's probably more than aware of the countless failures and wary of being one himself, but if you put yourself in amongst that bracket without even ever at least trying, well...what's the point?

I'd have no intention of feeling I needed to prove myself in the utter wastelands of the English League One. It is a 46 game slog, now including Checkatrade Trophy group stages playing Academy teams in front of 300 folk (woo).

I live in a city with a third tier English club a good few places ahead of MK Dons in the table. Granted they don't have the same potential, but believe me when I say that no one is taking any notice of what goes on at this level.

Even that vaunted potential of MK Dons. They're a 14 year old franchise that are 12 places below the start up club they replaced, who've been through about 9 tiers of the English pyramid in that time.

He'll no doubt realise that in time, but heading to Milton feckin Keynes from Edinburgh and swapping those two clubs in the process is laughable. I hope he enjoys the additional cash, but have no doubt he won't last long. Not that I expect he would have lasted much longer at Hearts anyway, truth be told.

Perhaps it also says something about the managerial qualities of the guys you mention?

Kenny Jackett just left Rotherham after about a month. I'm almost positive that's more a reflection on the state of that club than it is on him as a coach or manager.

Similarly Wigan, MK Dons and Coventry. Run by idiots. There are many more.

The English lower leagues are now full of these wannabes clubs with tinpot ownerships who have absolutely no idea how to run a club along the lines of Southampton for example, which largely defines where they find themselves.

A decent manager could probably have given Hearts a right good go at finishing second this year IMO*

*Have no idea what their finances are like right now, more of a comment on how utterly shampooe the competition is.
They still have a right good go at it. If they win tonight, they'll be second, although Aberdeen will have 2 games in hand. They play the zombies again and Aberdeen in December.

With lucrative pay-offs for their mortgages and tax bills. I also bet you that Caldwell got a hefty bonus last season for promotion and a salary increase.

I'm pretty sure that the likes of Neilson and Pressley can't turn their nose up at an extra few grand a week plus incentives and bonuses. It would be hard not to.

Although I do agree that the clubs are tinpot and ran by imbeciles.

If Neilson was getting "an extra few grand a week" that would be a great reason to go. But the average English League One boss earns £75,000 per year. He can't be on much less than that at Hearts surely?

1. Bundesliga leaders RB Salzburg :boik: have a 29 year old as manager

Michelsen have been a good manager for SønderjyskE, going to be interesting to see what he can do with Hammarby

And that Levein does 90% of the work there and leaves Neilsen to face the media and put out the cones....

MK Dons can pay more than £75k per year for a manager. That average wage includes teams like Shrewsbury and Bury. He's not going to up sticks for a wee bit more than he's on. Which I reckon will be about £1500-£2500 per week. Again, he'd have got a pay rise after promotion.

Seemingly Cathro and Austin McPhee will be the new men at Hearts.

Hearts already use Cathro's Box Soccer set-up in their youth set up. Austin McPhee an interesting number 2.
