Sad day when the manager of Scotland's third biggest club would rather be in England's third tier - and not even one of the bigger League One clubs at that.
that was my first thought as well
Exactly. MK Dons poaching Hearts manager, doesn't look good for the game up here. Would be surprised if they didn't go for Hartley or Pressley.
Neilson has been criticised by some Hearts fans over his playing style - or lack thereof - so maybe he's taking his chance to jump before he possibly gets pushed.

He'll also have a chance to work with a bigger budget, not to mention he'll treble his salary or more. He'd be daft not to take it, particularly with the diet fans on his case atm.

I can only imagine that Neilson thinks that if he does well at MK, he'll get a crack at an ambitious Championship club. But yeah, Hearts shouldn't be losing managers to England's third division.

Typical, unrest just as Hearts are about to play Sevco twice in 2 weeks.

League One bosses in England earn, on average, £75,000 per year according to a report published by the League Managers Association less than two years ago. No way is Neilson trebling his salary.

To be fair, they've been in an almost constant state of unrest for over a decade now

Why. ??

Bolton, Coventry and Sheffield United in that division .. all arguably much bigger clubs than Hearts :ponder:

That would only be relevant if he was going to one of those clubs. He's going to MK Dons.

Yeah but he's not joining any of those clubs. He's going to a club with an average attendance of 9,000, zero history and very little money (judging by their lack of transfer activity in recent windows).

Pretty sure i read that his contract with Hearts is up next May anyway. This has come at a perfect time for him.

You could argue the teams you mentioned don't belong in that division.

England isn't the promised land as many would make you believe.

Rightly or wrongly, Neilson managing in England will raise his profile and I suppose he has ambitions of managing at a high level.

Would question if any of those clubs are bigger than Hearts. Really don't think any of them are.

As for the other points about him potentially leaving, I think it's only possibly happening because he's taken Hearts as far as he'll take them. I doubt this job would have turned his head this time last season.

You could argue that he could wait on a bigger club at a higher level, but he might be thinking his stock might fall in the coming months. Hearts have evidently regressed this season.

Can't see Pressley getting the job. If they don't go for Cathro it wouldn't surprise me if Jon Daly gets it. Levein will want someone in he can control
