Just noticed Arteta is as small as 1/4 with some bookies for the Arsenal job too. Surprised they seem to be going with him, unless they really are struggling to get a big hitter with no CL football to offer.

Guardiola seems desperate to keep him though, so he could have something about him. Not sure I'd be buzzing with enthusiasm for it if I was an Arsenal fan in all honesty.

Allardyce binned. Don't like him but he seems to have done the job he was called in to do. Not sure if they were expecting him to have them playing scintillating football.

Ah well. Another contract paid up and a pint of wine for Big Sam.
It is crazy stuff from Everton.

Also WHU are supposedly going to bin Moyes. Another bizarre decision.
Not really, the fans don't like the football and they don't like him. The team was booed off the park more than once this season after lacklustre performances. It would have been crazy to keep him in those circumstances. Everton are a big draw and have a lot of potential for improvement. They can do much better.

Tends to get the job done does big Sam. Never going to be good football, but teams know what to expect. Imagine he'll be in the same boat next season at some stage.

Nah, good decision.

They're never going to get relegated and they're never going to finish higher than 6th. Given that, you need to something other than Fat Sam's attritional hoof ball to make the season bearable.

Arteta to Arsenal, for me, is more bizarre than Gerrard at Ibrox. Gerrard at least has given a bump to season ticket sales and will make Sevco fans feel relevant again for a few months. But Arsenal surely can’t be short of top managerial options? Assumed they’d go for an Allegri/Luis Enrique big-name winner of major trophies, not Man City’s third or fourth in command.

Correct. Allardyce was brought in as an insurance policy to avoid relegation when it looked like Everton were in freefall. He’s kept them up but that really is the end of the road for him there. The fans can’t stand his style of football and have zero faith in his ability to lead them to anything but mid-table mediocrity.

Allardyce will probably sit around until October, when one EPL team, in the bottom five at the time, will panic, sack their manager and bring him in.

He will do as he does, play ugly football, keep the team up, get paid off with a nice check, and on it goes.

A team like Everton aren't going to be breaking into the top six anytime soon.

Even if the football is poor, he has kept them up with little fuss. They were in free fall when he took over.

Surely he deserves another season?

I am no fan of him btw just don't think sacking a manager for no reason other than the support don't like the style of play is mental.

Seems as an appropriate place as any to put this. The latest David Squires strip in the Guardian is a thing of beauty.

He only agreed to take them on an 18 month deal. If they could have gotten him on a deal to the end of the season I think they would have.

Paying fat Sam 5 million quid to keep you up when your worried you'll go down is a no brainer. It's chicken feed to what you'll lose if you go down.

That said I don't think Everton were ever really in a relegation battle.

Yep Blackburn did the same with him and you see were they ended up.
