Gerrard going to them undoubtedly creates more interest in the league going forward. Looking to next season with a rejuvenated Killie and Hibs up challenging for European places with Aberdeen and Gerrard around there with the huns makes it pretty exciting from the outside with us going for 8 in a row.

Almost certain he'll be a disaster as well which will be beautiful to watch.
Aberdeen should seriously consider punting McInnes due to his track record in big games.

The huns seem to be hoping that this turns out to be another Souness moment for them. Missing out on the fundamental point that Walter Smith was the brains behind Souness for his relatively short time at deidco. Who is Gerrard's assistant?
The Cardigan was there

Lots of dodgy money

England internationals as English clubs were banned form Europe.

There is no comparison.

(McAllister is a number 2)
Fixed that for you.

aye but he was still a rookie
He’d had managers jobs at Uniao Lieria and Benfica (albeit briefly), but even if you took them out, Mourinho had been at various clubs in Portugal & also Barcelona working directly with top coaches and helping them to manage players.

Only one I can think might come close to answering the original question is Roy Keane at Sunderland when he got them promoted, but did nothing after that.
Villas-Boas took over struggling team, kept them up, then had great first full season at Porto.

That wasn’t his first job
aye but he was still a rookie
Not really, he’d worked as an assistant at top clubs winning European trophies. He had a short spell at Benfica where he pumped Sporting then resigned after 9 games. He then went to UDL and had them above Porto in the league before moving to Porto in the January.

Although he was still relatively new to management he had top level coaching experience and was ready for the role.

He wasn’t thrown into the deep end like yer man in Govan

One of their fans says they hope he "puts Scott Brown on his arse", so I'm thinking some of them believe they've signed him as a player. Either that or the ones who showed up to see him have fallen and damaged their heads at some point in the past, which seems more likely.

The shower of absolute weaponry.

Says a lot about Liverpool's standing now that 'getting to finals' and CL qualification is a relative success. They should be better than that - like us they are one of the proper big clubs but they have the cash and have spent it.

I think Klopp is a tremendous, really exciting manager but Leicester City won the league on his watch FFS.
He took over mid way through the season when that happened did he not?
Klopp got Mainz relegated and was well on his way to doing the same with Dortmund before he chucked it.
He was on his way to getting Dortmund relegated when he resigned after the final game of the season where they finished 7th?

Possibly does but they said that about Joey Barton as well

They genuinely think that we are bricking it with this appointment.

I think I'll just say to them, "look, if Brendan was your manager now, would you swap him for Stephen Gerard?"

And I'm sure a lot of them will say yes.

just don't get it.Where are they getting the dosh to pay off the current squad (almost all of them), get good players in (ageing and known to Gerrard). Loan players from all sorts of English clubs. King, up to his oxters in shady deals wi' (allegedly) nae money.
However was watching as Gerrard was being presented to the hordes. Hardly a smile, the scarf, the usual crap, almost "the only club I always wanted to manage" stuff
" a no brainer for me" says the bold boy.Not surprised - he disnae have any brains anyway. I imagine Gary McAllister is the interpreter

besta luck Steven - you will need it !!!!

Getting on a bit
[ * * * * * * * * * * ]
Why do they think he will be any better than Warburton, Caixinha or even Murty. McInnes turned it down, they are getting desperate now. Guy on BBC News just now saying he will bring "passion and a physical presence" so maybe a lot of them do think he is player-manager ? Dave King saying his inexperience will be a plus point, Gary McAllister has no real experience in management for him to rely on, thought they might have gone down the road of a wise old head in beside Gerrard. Still would like to know where the money is coming from to buy players this summer.
Straws, clutching. At least they will probably shift a few season books on the back of it.
