I'm new. Be gentle.
Worried this might be a good appointment for them as he isnt as daft as the previous. We might only win by two or three goal margins next season.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
That wasn’t his first job
aye but he was still a rookie
If it wasn’t his first job, and it wasn’t as he had managed twice before, then by definition he can’t be a rookie

Edit - why the eff can’t I type?

thought he had only had 1 job for a year before Porto - your right enough.

in that case - I can think of no one - especially a top level player.

Does Gerrard even have a good record with the youth team?

anyone know how long his contract was for the u-18s in Liverpool.

he signed it 11 april 2017 as far as i can see, and I imagine it may have been one season ( i.e. till summer 2018) but can't find details.

Says a lot about Liverpool's standing now that 'getting to finals' and CL qualification is a relative success. They should be better than that - like us they are one of the proper big clubs but they have the cash and have spent it.

I think Klopp is a tremendous, really exciting manager but Leicester City won the league on his watch FFS.
He took over mid way through the season when that happened did he not?
Klopp got Mainz relegated and was well on his way to doing the same with Dortmund before he chucked it.

I think people are missing the point with Gerrard.
He's not being appointed to be a great manager. He's a recognized brand abroad.
The Huns need outside investment if they want to compete with us. Nobody in Scotland will touch them. they are a damaged brand in every way.

They need to give their club a brand name abroad. They are now "Steven Gerrard's team". Much easier to sell.

Put it this way. When Gerrard played for LA galaxy vs Montreal there were grown men (uber soccer winkers) turned up at the game wearing replica Gerrard jerseys.
He's one of the cookie cutter players North America and Asia know about.

The man is a sales tool. He could be hardly be worse than what they had so they might as well sign him to market the club.

he'd better get cracking then , they'll be sacking him at Christmas. 4 year pay off ! yep its easy to see why it was a no brainer for Gerrard. Funny when when your managers the best player at the club.

This pretty much it. He's the polish on the turd. There'll be an initial "ooh" factor and lots of happy clapping about how shiny the turd looks....but it'll become apparent soon enough that it's still a turd.

Hey-ho. Allows us to keep the head down and focus on the cup final when we'll hopefully do the business and send out a reminder that we're number one and aim to stay there...

He’d had managers jobs at Uniao Lieria and Benfica (albeit briefly), but even if you took them out, Mourinho had been at various clubs in Portugal & also Barcelona working directly with top coaches and helping them to manage players.

Only one I can think might come close to answering the original question is Roy Keane at Sunderland when he got them promoted, but did nothing after that.

The huns seem to be hoping that this turns out to be another Souness moment for them. Missing out on the fundamental point that Walter Smith was the brains behind Souness for his relatively short time at deidco. Who is Gerrard's assistant?

Gerrard going to them undoubtedly creates more interest in the league going forward. Looking to next season with a rejuvenated Killie and Hibs up challenging for European places with Aberdeen and Gerrard around there with the huns makes it pretty exciting from the outside with us going for 8 in a row.

Almost certain he'll be a disaster as well which will be beautiful to watch.

Did he aye? That why Dortmund finished in the Europa League spots this same season he was 'well on the way' to relegating them? Don't talk shampooe.

And to relegate Mainz isn't really a big failure when you consider they'd never really been a top-flight team, and were struggling to stay in the second division for large periods of his time as a player. Only towards the end of his playing career and then managerial career that they got into the top flight. Again, don't talk shampooe.

The Cardigan was there

Lots of dodgy money

England internationals as English clubs were banned form Europe.

There is no comparison.

(McAllister is his number 2)
