A desperation move from the Huns. Gerrard is certainly a good leader on the pitch, but to deal with all the dynamics of management, with limited funds, in the Glasgow fishbowl and hysterical fans baying to stop Ten-in-a-row...... = a poisinous atmosphere.

Look at the way they treated Murty....who actually had them second, which is reasonably successful considering the circumstances he inherited.

This will only raise the bar of unrealistic expectations. Im a Gerrard fan (playing days) and sorry to see him go to the dark side; but a manager with this amount of lack of experience, going head to head with Rodgers, its probably one of the best appointments from a Celtic perspective. The first year will be a learning experience, so that's a write off, the second will be lots of pressure to stop 9-in-a-row.....and year 3 will have all the hysteria to stop 10-in-a-row, it could be a complete meltdown. Rather than build a club its all about the short term with the Huns.

They'll be hoping that Gerrard knows Brendan well enough to counter him. The only thing I can think of as to why they'd appoint another rookie.
They've went for the last person who stopped Brendan winning a title. Fair play.
 There is that.

The thing with Gerrard is they'll be looking at his contacts in the youth system down south because I doubt they can afford many (if any ) blue chip signings. The clear out will be fun too as he's going to be building from scratch. Incredibly stupid decision if he has taken it.

He won’t be a cheap rookie either.

Even at that. Most of those signings will be on loan and then 12 months later sent off with no money coming in followed by another rebuild.

The only good thing about this appointment is the fact it may make bring a bit of glamour to Scottish football. But how long will that last if he flops.

How many players is he likely to keep ? Can't be many.

If he has any success the media down South will just laugh at the game up here.

This is all about maximising the ST sales.

The stupid Huns will sell out, they will open the doors to the cesspool, they’ll get a new world record attendance for a manger unveiling and they’ll be once again Going fur 55 because they’re a bunch of thick, bigoted arseholes, who’ll swallow any auld shampooe they’re being spoon fed, as long as it gives them hope of stopping 10 in a row.

There’s no strategy or long term plan, it’s all about the next 3 years. Period.

They’re a bunch of stupid carrots and deserve all they get.

McInnes knows how to beat the rest . If they had half a brain with the limited resources available he was their best chance of atleast beating the others first . Gerrard with absolutely no managerial experience, no clue about Scottish football is a crazy dangerous road to take. Fantastic for us because in my opinion title no 8 in a row is a nailed on certainty . And the cost of the Stevie G experiment may win title 9 + 10

Trying to think of other top EPL players and forays into management... likes of Keane, Shearer, Ince etc. Vieira seems to have done well over in the U.S. but that's relatively low key as a starting point.

No question he brings a certain cache from his playing career, a decent contacts book and he may well attract some initial interest from players who might otherwise have swerved joining the village of the damned but all of that will fade into distant memory if he can't get hold of a divided dressing room full of diddies whose mouths run much faster than their feet.

Imagine Brendan leaving and us being linked to a Giggs or some such... I'd be horrified and we'd be appointing from a position of strength. I remain sceptical he'll sign up but if he does it's a fair shout to go wrong pretty quickly.

GRAEME MURTY has this morning been relieved of his duties as manager of Rangers.
Jimmy Nicholl and Jonatan Johansson will take charge of the team for the three remaining matches of the season.
Rangers are grateful to Graeme, who did not hesitate when asked last October to become interim manager after the departure of Pedro Caixinha and then, at the turn of the year, when he was offered the role as manager until the end of the season.
Graeme has had to contend with difficult and challenging circumstances but conducted himself in a thoroughly professional manner. He will take some time to consider his options, which include returning to his role at the Rangers Academy.
Jimmy Nicholl and Jonatan Johansson have already started preparing the team for the match against Kilmarnock on Saturday and they will be in place for the two remaining fixtures, against Aberdeen and Hibernian.
The club hopes to be in a position to comment further on the managerial situation in the near future.
