Pleased to discover from this news that Bob Wilson is still alive. Hadn't seen or heard from him in years, so assumed the worst.

Dermot Desmond saying he wouldn’t stand in Rodgers way if he’s offered the job
Link?
Was a live interview on sky sports news.

https://twitter.com/scotlandsky/status/987281150719610881?s=21
If so, that's a effin idiotic comment to make. As remote as he is, Desmond's had enough experience of the scummy Scottish MSM to know he should be ultra cautious with his public utterances; they will seize on careless, throwaway remarks like that and milk it to death. Brendan will be fielding their jibes long after Arsenal appointment someone else. Desmond has invited them to creative the narrative that Celtic are prepared to let Brendan go 'to a bigger club', and that will piss him off. And us.

"We won't stand in his way, but will bank the £10m compensation cheque"

DD is absolutely right to say he wouldn't stand in Rodgers way if Arsenal came looking for him. That would have been one of the rules of engagement .
Having said that, I very much doubt Arsenal will come knocking. Chelsea however.... :twitch:
I already had a feeling that this summer would be the point where Rodgers immediate future was uncertain.

If a big job in the EPL comes up in the summer and he's in the running then he has a decision to make.....but if he's still with us by the time the window closes and the CL group stage starts (regardless of whether it's because he's knocked back EPL sides or he hasn't been in the running) then I reckon he'll definitely be here for the 10 and his place in history

Wenger in the summer of 2006 weeks on from losing the Champions League final having won 3 of the last 8 EPL titles & 2 years earlier winning the league undefeated could have took the Real Madrid job & didn't.

Unlimited cash at Real Madrid compared to belt tightening at Arsenal due to the costs of the Emirates Stadium, it's not ridiculous to see why Arsenal fans took years to turn on him, he showed them loyalty & as a club they felt they owed him loyalty aswell. He should still have been removed atleast 4 years ago.

Wenger leaves as Arsenals greatest manager, leagues & cups won will see to that, the hysteria of the last few years will die out & he'll be given the respect he deserves by Arsenal fans.

Id be very surprised if Arsenal want Rodgers. As others have said their fans would go mental. They will want a big name European manager.

The top clubs down south will want to emulate Guardiola. Rightly or wrongly, they'll see Brendan as someone who isn't exotic enough and as someone who has already had his chance with a top team and didn't deliver. My guess is they'll go for untried (in England) foreign coaches in order to appease the fans, bring international appeal and try something entirely new. It's to their own detriment that they'll overlook BR.

Once he has 10IAR, I can see BR heading off to sunnier climes for a stint.

Considering retirement

Ex-Barca DOF Raul Sanllehi is the current Head of Football Relations at Arsenal, only taking up his post in February. Perhaps Luis Enrique is their preference?

By the same token, the Head of Recruitment (I assume that means player recruitment) is a German guy called Sven Mislintat. There continues to be quite a lot of speculation about Tuchel and even Joachim Loew.

Plenty reports of the former going to PSG of course, and the latter staying at the DFB until 2020.

If Arsenal had any sense then I could see them making an approach for Rodgers.

Arsenal kept Wenger in place for at least 8 years longer than they should have done, so I'm not convinced that they have any sense.

Standard football fans. A huge number of us celebrated Strachan leaving. And I was one of them so I guess I'm cardboard. Wenger has been a busted flush for years. If you paid an absolute fortune to watch them you'd be perfectly entitled to be happy he's gone.
