A big club within Norway, a good move for him. If he can get them sorted out he could win a lot with them. A bit of a fallen giant in that neck of the woods.

Best of luck big man!

New stadion ready next year and massive investments on the steps. Vålerenga is the biggest club in Oslo and should be fighting for the trophies every year. A lot of unrealised potential and I can see the attraction.

I liked Deila and certainly hope he goes on to do good things at future clubs.

Good luck Ronny lad!

Still don't understand the need to rip in to the guy. He came at a strange and thankless time when the club was now clearly holding fire until we had a more obvious domestic competitor.

He won two leagues, a cup and gave valuable playing time to Kieran Tierney.

If we make the Champions league with what seems likely to be the same squad as last year then he will have had his hand in developing Champions league players after all. :arrr:

To quote Henry Ford "If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got"

Sam Allardyce is just the next Hoddle, Keegan, McLaren or Hodgson. He won't bring them the success they desperately want and bizzarley think they are entitled to but far be it from me to stop England making yet another utterly daft and totally wrong appointment

To be fair, he's usually done relatively well with mediocre players.

Not that I'm saying he's the class of manager that they need

Moyes seemingly in advanced talks to take over at Sunderland. England appointing Allardyce is more or less an admission that they've given up trying to be a force in international football and are now content just to qualify for tournaments and make up the numbers.

He has, but England are not fighting relegation battles which is what Allardyce does best.

England are the equivalent of a top ten side in the EPL who still think they should be winning the EPL and being a force in the Champions League. If Sam couldn't get a top 4 EPL job then he is not the man to win a World Cup or European Championship which is the stated ambition for England.

He will be sacked within 4 years having qualified for 2 competitions and done feck all in both.

That being said, Allardyce will be about £15m to £20m richer as a consequence so there was no way he would ever turn the job down.

Allardyce is a decent manager who's got a proven track record of working limited players to the best of their ability and getting big egos to perform.

He's also a far shrewder tactician than most people give him credit for.

I think he'll do well, although he might need a bit of time to get into the swing of things.

I wonder just how long Big Sam will last in his new job...they must have been determined it was going to be an Englishman with that appointment.
How many Sunderland fans would have thought that when he took over there they would lose him to the England job ???? :rocker:

I had a conversation at work with an Englishman who said that their next Manager HAD to be English.

He couldn't expand on his point, only that 'it just has to'.

I actually think I did say - you'd rather have someone like McLaren or Allardyce over Mourinho; and he said yes
