I don’t know why I got it in my head that this was a short term appointment however I have just seen he is contracted to 2020. The self preservation of the SFA continues with easy decisions being made that show no one takes the future of Scottish Football seriously.

I never really blamed McLeish for walking out on the Scotland job. If I recollect, he never really wanted it anyway and was openly talking about how much he was after a club job. The SFA basically begged him to take it and he was off as soon as a club job came calling. It was hardly earth shattering.

I'm certainly not going to get all faux outrage about him getting it this time. Simple fact is, the list of potential candidates for the gig was short and they were all shampooe in their own individual ways.

It's also not like my support for Scotland could get any lower than it is now. I've turned over games they were playing in to watch Eastenders or ball socks from the tumble dryer. They've been awful for years.

I'm sure his mates in the media will rally round.

This appointment, allied with the SFA's response to the calls for a proper review of the old Rangers EBT thing, changes my stance on the national side somewhat. Previously, my attitude was one of complete indifference - moving forward, I will actively want them to lose.

Been softened up to an extent over this choice. Plenty unappointable candidates wheeled out over the last three weeks like Caldwell, McCoist, McCall, Mackay, Hughes and the coup de grace, Smith, to make this seem a bit more palatable.

Smokescreens all, and no attempt to speak to overseas candidates with high level international or European club competition experience.

The team McLeish chooses to put in place around him will be instructive. If it's Andy Watson and Aitken, it will tell us virtually everything we need to know about the direction the football will take for the national team.

McLeish has the best win to games ratio of any Scotland manager.

Hughes would’ve been a better appointment. The whole thing is a complete farce. As someone else pointed out t it took 4 months to find McLeish?

Absolute shambles from top to bottom.

I actually thought McLeish was a decent manager for a long time but his record since his final few months at Birmingham has been dismal.

Hughes would have lasted about 30 seconds. I can imagine players like Broony, Darren Fletcher, Tierney and Robertson really enjoying him slapping his 'gold dust' and 'passion' patter right into them.

Right after he's told the story of his epic yet unsuccessful fight to keep Raith Rovers in the second tier of Scottish football against a part time team of bakers and plumbers and bookies, or his stellar stint at Hartlepool. Or his massive European experience getting beat from a team from Liechtenstein.

Dining out on a Scottish Cup win that would never have happened but for the incompetence/cheating of Alan Muir and Steven McLean.

The manager of oldco 2001-06, the main years of the improper registration players - for which they were later found guilty and fined £250k (titles? I know).

The club manager who knew that it was cheating. Now, when everyone knows about this cheating, the SFA now appoint him as manager.

Let's all just move on, eh? This is the SFA's GIRFUY to everyone.

Aye, cos it’s only now that we can confirm that the SFA are a bunch of inept, corrupt Hun bastards. Ridiculous appointment but all this “final straw, that’s me finished now” stuff is laughable.

Charlie Adams is in the papers praising the Mighty Eck and announcing that he wants to reignite his Scotland playing career. Pathetic.

McLeish will now be paraded at Hampden on Friday morning after agreeing a £400,000-a-year deal until the summer of 2020.
The appointment is a major victory for SFA vice-president Rod Petrie, who desperately wanted the ex-Hibs gaffer as Gordon Strachan’s successor once Michael O’Neill opted to stay with Northern Ireland.

That’s the worrying thing, that that little creep Petrie won the day.

Imagine having THAT “move along” little bastard calling the shots.
