The next manager has to be Scottish?
The last 5 have been and have all failed, including the one they want to reappoint. The last manager to get us even into the play-offs was Berti Vogts.

The result of that play off was a 6-1 aggregate defeat, including as humiliating a 6-0 defeat in Amsterdam as can be imagined, then an ignominious exit after an away draw in Moldova in the next campaign, with Scotland 86th in the world.
There's a lot to be said for at least having a grasp of the potential pool of players available to you, from regulars to potentials to the 21 set up. That doesn't necessarily mean employing a Scot, but some knowledge of what you have got to work with is desirable, and it was never apparent that Vogts grasped this at any point. That's not to say that another overseas coach wouldn't though.

The Loyal Cardigan's name being linked by the Daily Record with the Scotland manager's job will only have appeared in the Daily Record by kind permission of the Loyal Cardigan
My view is its another Jabba sponsored piece of spin. He would love to get one of his own behind the doors of the SFA even if it is just as a manager. If Sir Legned does get the job watch for the spin from Jabbas minions to get a(nother) dyed in the wool hun as the top post at the SFA. He's running scared in case some 'neutral' gets the job and starts to scrape the surface and expose the extensive corruption within our games top level. Can we have a 'Shred-It' van watch set up? Edit to include the extensive corruption involved in getting the huns their UEFA licence and all associated corruption involved with bringing Newhun into the game.
You seriously think James Traynor is pulling the strings in Scottish football ?

I don’t think Clarke would be interested in it. Presumably he is hoping to replace Brendan Rodgers. The Scotland job is too much of a gamble at this stage, I expect he’ll want to stay on at Killie or step up to Aberdeen/Hibs/Hearts, depending on when BR moves on.
The Scotland job has too many elements that a manager can’t control, and it’s a very big stage from which to fall. Usually only desperados and part-time retirees are willing to manage international teams. Especially poor-average ones like Scotland.
It's only his "word" obviously, and in football words can easily be broken, but before Christmas when McInnes was concomitantly staying at Aberdeen and binning Sevco, Clarke was asked at the Killie AGM about taking that job and he said he would not leave Kilmarnock for another Scottish club. Would hint that he sees his future being back in England at some point. Having read into it a bit, as well as simply being back in employment, it seems to suit Clarke being back in Scotland at this stage of his career/life, or more accurately at this point in his parents lives. He's been away more than 30 years. Apparently he has already said he does not want the Scotland job, but I have not read the quote. I was at the AGM, he was asked about the Huns and he said he had no interest in the job and was happy at Killie and wanted to stay to create a legacy.
My gut feeling is that the only team he'd manage in Scotland other than us would be Celtic.
He's not exactly Hun pedigree if you get my drift. Went to same school as Roy Aitken and Mark Reid for starters.......his dad actually lives a couple of hundred yards from Bobby Lennox too!

Do you think if Wattie decides it's not for him (I'm getting the feeling that it is up to him rather than the other way round) then the SFA will issue a statement saying he didn't have the ambition etc...?

If they really are going down the "has to be a Scotsman" route, I'd rather see Alex Neil, John Collins or even John Hughes or indeed, Billy Davies get offered it before I'd offer it to a 70yr old who hasn't been near football for almost 8 years. Hell, I'd even speak to Terry Butcher and ask him if he'd be interested. He's been up here long enough to qualify as a pseudo-Scot. Let's be realistic, the Scotland manager's job is not going to attract a top class coach. It is not an attratctive job either in status or financial terms. Tbf it was a very decent Dutch side... Indeed. I just checked and the difference in quality between the two squads is night and day. They had PVH, Robben and Roy Makaay as unused subs. Scotland brought on Stevie Crawford and Maurice Ross at half time.
Spoiler: click to toggle Holland: Van der Sar, Ooijer (De Boer 46), Reiziger, Bouma (Seedorf 67), Van der Meyde, Van der Vaart, Cocu, Sneijder, Davids, Overmars, van Nistelrooy (Kluivert 76). Subs Not Used: Makaay, Robben, Waterreus, Van Hooijdonk.
Booked: van Nistelrooy, Davids.
Scotland: Douglas, McNamara, Pressley, Wilkie, Naysmith (Ross 46), Fletcher, Ferguson, McCann (Miller 62), Rae, McFadden, Dickov (Crawford 45). Subs Not Used: Gould, Graham Alexander, Caldwell, Hutchison.

When you se a country like Scotland having some players bedded in for the future isn't the worst idea. A lot of smaller countries with limited talent pools will fast track young players up the age groups and into full squads to get the much vaunted 'club team spirit' going.
Just our players were shampooe.

Wilmots when he was Belgian Manager would not of been on much more than that. Roberto Martinez wouldn't be getting a fortune at Belgium either.
The Icelandic boss is probably on less than 500k a year.
If the SFA actually did there job and looked further than the UK and Ireland they may just see that there are coaches out there.

Vogts might have got us a play off place but he had a piss easy group, a Germany team who lost the World cup final but were largely regarded as terrible & stunk Euro 2004 out.
A poor Iceland team with 1 good player Gudjohnsen, Faroe Islands (who he drew with) & Lithuania.
Iirc in the practice draw for the play offs we got Latvia & then in the real one we got the Dutch.

This is just completely killing the game for me. I can't handle the media, SFA and their Hun attitudes anymore. Its a effing disgrace. I was trying to say the exact same thing and was struggling with the words.
In what other sphere of life would someone like Smith be so slavishly praised? And it's not even as though you need to dig too deep. Walked out on Scotland; chequebook manager; that EBT business whilst at Everton; brain numbing Wattanacio tactics; out the game for 7 years. There are a whole host of potentially interesting threads to be followed. Christ, even just finding out who it was in the SFA who thought this was a good idea given they were supposed to have a list of other candidates would resemble an investigative report. Instead, we get endless pages of bowing and scraping to "Walter" from a press pack who quite clearly can't wait to use his return to wheel out lots of photos of the good old days when Timmy was in his place.
I honestly despair.
