Haud oan, they offered £200k per year less, on a much shorter contract? :ffs:

Honestly, a complete shambles of an outfit. An absolsute gang of effing imbeciles.
The IFA contract offer basically blew the SFA out of the water.

It appears that the SFA's £600,000 a year four year offer (plus meeting O'Neill's £500,000 compensation fee) was the absolute limit of what the SFA Board would allow.
Why did it ever get to the negotiation stage?

I assume he would have been told about the contract details prior to an approach being made.

I think o'neill strung the SFA along to get better terms from northern ireland, the sfa might be arseholes but he doesn't come out of this looking particularly great either.

Scotland was the only interest he had and the NI contract offer was almost certainly made on the back of that interest. I'm not sure there was ever any real intention of going to Scotland. He is in a great position now - long term security and he can say he turned the Scotland job down to remain loyal to NI. I don't think it shows a lot of ambition to be honest. He has taken Northern Ireland as far as he can, I think.

That's what I think as well, but yet again Regan has made an utter clustereff of things, he never was fit for purpose when appointed, how he remains in his position after defines the shambolic state of the SFA and our game in general.

Must be utterly soul destroying for Neil Lennon in this country. He showed remarkable self discipline in not getting involved when Levein assaulted one of his players. Levein then continues to behave like a tosser with his "natural order has now been restored" comment, (this after Hibs were recently cheated out of a deserved win at Tynecastle.)

Now that he has responded to Levein's comments it is all Lennon's fault in the first place. (The Herald blog on the subject is just rant after rant against Lennon.)

Austin McPhee should be banned from the Tynecastle dug out for distracting the players with that hair.

Jambo mate seems confident Michael O’Neill is taking over there in the summer, Levein stepping back upstairs,.

What sort of wage would hertz be paying in comparison to his current wage?

Your Jambo mate is totally and utterly wrong. Levein and O'Neill cannot be described as good friends

The SFA are a constant embarrassment. They’re not fit to run football at any level and it’s time for a number of the blazers to take their fair share of the blame of recent failures and leave.

No chance. Never in a million years, he already turned it down when Cathro left.

He went through with all the speculation and interview process over the last few months, was offered the job and then decided it was not right thing for him at this time. Conveniently enough a day after he had a further meeting with the IFA. If they persuaded him to stay on there is no argument with that but he should have been up front with the real reasons for knocking it back.

I've lost a fair bit of respect for him to be honest.

SunSport understands former Celtic and Scotland star Gary Caldwell is eager to speak to the SFA about the vacant position.

The 35 year-old has been out of football since being axed by Chesterfield last September.

But it’s understood Caldwell — capped 55 times — has contacted Stewart Regan to make it known he’s interested.
