Chances are someone will be appointed, eventually, rip out the Celtic spine that was being established and you will see Championship players galore, as we have done in the past pre-Strachan.

It's funny, you're saying that was his policy and I believe he was attempting to remove us from that well sailed course. In an earlier post I wrote that we have been over reliant on poor Anglo-Scots (for decades), I think it's probable a new man will instantly pack his side full of these players and five, six, Celtic players starting will soon be but a distant memory.
Strachan had Callum McGregor sitting picking his hole while well trotted out dicks like Fletcher, McArthur and Phillips all made the cameos you'd expect from them.

It took him till the last few games to actually pick Armstrong and Griff despite being infinitely better than what was on offer.

Alex Rae jobsharing with a bobbit worm would be my choice.
You'd need to make sure they get their initials on their training gear.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Both McGregor and mcGinn were on form at the time - that is the point.

I don't think McGinn should be signing for us. But the form he was showing at that point in time - he was MOTM at CP against us - meant he was a far better option than Bannan who wasn't getting a game with his club in the Championship. Both players were far better than what Strachan went for. And banner is utter dross - never seen him have a good game.
Where does this nonsense about Bannan not getting a game come from? Up until injuring his hip on 15 December, after which he has been injured ever since, he had literally started every game for Wednesday in the League this season. His absence is also seen by their fans as a key reason for their recent form taking a major dive.

He's a better player than McGinn.
I stand corrected on Bannon. I thought I had read somewhere that he wasn't featuring. Apologies for the mistake. There were others in those squads that weren't playing for their teams - Snodgrass had just been offloaded by West Ham and from memory Naismith wasn't playing for Norwich.

With regards Bannon, Sheff Wed fans might rate him but I have yet to see him play a good game - and he was poor in those Scotland games. McGinn would have been a better shout for Slovakia and Slovenia with the form he was in at that time - not saying Mcginn is a world beater btw.

Alex Neil should be considered, and should have been considered before Michael O`Neill
My first choice of the realistic targets.
If we can't afford more than a £500K salary then I don't think it would be a goer. Would be a decent shout though.

I'm not defending every decision here, I'm saying Strachan eventually figured out that a new approach was necessary and broke from decades of uninspiring repetition. He was on the right track and I think it was poor just to say well he got it right too late, tough luck - improvements should have been encouraging after years of drudgery, Scotland are back at the stage now when the SFA can appoint the next Levein or Burley.

I though he was getting it wrong for a long time myself but I also believe they sacked him just as he was getting everything moving in the right direction.

I think that's around maybe six or seven English Championship or lower players down to one?

I’d be surprised if he wanted anything to do with the job but the SFA should be on the blower to Sir Alex Ferguson.

Yep, they should at least ask the question.

Should have asked it before even going for O'Neill

Just had a look at the Sky Bet odds for next Scotland manager. Four hun managers - McLeish, McCall, McCoist and even Murty - are shorter odds than Steve Clarke and Alex Neil. Malky Mackay the favourite.

'Wur too wee'

That statement and that statement alone was enough for me to be delighted to see the back of 5 foot 6 Strachan.

We weren't moving in any good direction. Dicks like Snodgrass, Bannan, McArthur, Anya and Philips all got run outs in a do or die qualifier against Slovenia whilst a very much in form McGregor came for a wee Slovenian holiday.

there are no obvious candidates. The SFA thought O'Neill would jump at the chance, but before he even spoke to them he checked out the squad he would be in charge of and decided that NI were a better proposition - says it all really.
We have a few decent players, but no great players (KT's time still to come), why would a good manager risk their reputation on taking over a team that is no nearer qualifying for a major tournament than it has been in the last 20 years.
Steve Clarke is the best option I can think of, but I wonder if he thinks he has a chance of landing the Celtic job in 3 years time - if so, why would he run the risk?
Strachan insists on robotic football - the football in his last season at CP was hard to watch - but why sack him when there was nobody else lined up for the job? Strachan is organised, if nothing else, and would have done until the SFA found someone better. Much as I dislike Strachan's football, I can't think of anyone else who is better than him who would take the job. Simple remit, get Scotland into the next major finals with a team made up of journeymen - can't see too many high profile managers jumping at that opportunity (oh and NI are paying £800, 000 per year, Scotland are offering £500,000 with bonuses if you qualify).

That's because the more people told Strachan that McGregor should play, the less likely it would be that he would be picked

Alex Neil or Jack Ross

Experience has clearly given us no results over the past decade so why bother using that as a prerequisite? Get someone in with modern coaching methods and who's shown they can motivate players which both of these guys have managed so far.

Eff McLeish and Malky. Especially Malky.

Show Racism the Red Carpet Card.

Malky it is then.

SFA can swither on the vine for all I'm bothered. Would love the Celts to pull out.

Except, not really - sometimes football is a carrot.

Bet you Strachan voted 'No'.
He wasnt eligible to vote and even if he did so what, the greatest living figure in Celtic history was campaigning for the better together side.
