My second choice would probably be Steve Clarke. Thats basing it however on a few months at Rugby Park which is not a lot I'll grant you. I also wonder who will take the job given that its pretty obvious that they won't be first choice.

Given the flack that Celtic have given the SFA over the end of season friendly arrangements today (and correctly so) it is looking increasing like a job that will be difficult to sell.
The real hope is that eventually the SFA will be totally revamped or replaced by a modern thinking organisation less worried about where the bodies are buried and presenting a clear vision of where we are headed. They are so out of touch and laced in secrecy it's abhorrent.
On that we agree

They should be begging him to come out of retirement for the gig.

He should have been first choice from the start.

Obviously he may not be interested and could reject it but ffs, it wouldn't be half as embarrassing as the Michael effing O'Neill rejection.

He is the greatest Scottish manager who has never managed the national team.

At least pick up the phone and see if he fancies a semi retirement job.
:suspect:
He means apart from when he did.

Managing the team at World Cup in Mexico doesn't count.

I think they're going to have a real job trying to get someone in now, as they'll know they're the ugly, fatty at the end of the night as the lights go on.

It appears that the SFA put all their eggs in the one basket and felt that they would get O'Neill.

Time to start again, and they will need to start again as it seems that they didn't have a plan B.

They never even interviewed any others where they would be able to go back and ask them if they were still interested.

Paul lambert said at the weekend he was not asked about the Scotland job. this may not be a bad thing but you think they would have sounded a few people.

Depressing that it will be someone like McLeish. Even if he by some miracle does okay, he will jump ship to the first club job offered.

Lithuania at home was in October 2016, during the 2016/17 season. Barry Bannan played in 43 league games that season and had about 3600 minutes of game time. Wasn't exactly a rubbish season for them either. They finished fourth and lost in the play off semis on penalties.

At the time of the Lithuania game Snodgrass was still at Hull, and was one of their main men, hence the move to West Ham come January. He's since played virtually every league game since joining Villa on loan.

My point re Bannan and Snodgrass was for the group games this season when they were picked before McGinn and McGregor - eg Slovakia at home and Slovenia way.
There's a growing body of evidence that would make me doubt about selecting John McGinn for an SPFL Select, nevermind Scotland. Yesterday being just the latest example of how poor he has shown he can be. There is absolutely no way he is an improvement on Bannan whatsoever.

As for McGregor, I think we can all agree that a squad place was handed to him a bit late. However it's really only merited when he is in form. When McGregor is not in form, as of late for us, he's not much use to anybody.

I think Lennon would be a good appointment for the Scotland job. A track record of success in the Scottish game, which he knows inside out, not to mention being able to make teams more than the sum of their parts. Would cause too much of a ruckus, of course, but he'd be ideal.
Be worth it to see the ruckus on here
Would only cause a ruckus among huns, most of whom claim not to support Scotland anyway after the SFA’s ‘treatment’ of them in recent years. Hibs fans have embraced him, more than a few Aberdeen fans wanted him to replace McInnes when it looked like he was leaving. It would be a smart appointment. I very much doubt he’d be interested though.

Both McGregor and mcGinn were on form at the time - that is the point.

I don't think McGinn should be signing for us. But the form he was showing at that point in time - he was MOTM at CP against us - meant he was a far better option than Bannan who wasn't getting a game with his club in the Championship. Both players were far better than what Strachan went for. And banner is utter dross - never seen him have a good game.

Let's not just blame the incompetence of the SFA, most fans wanted Strachan gone. Unlike the player threads where we are dealing with unknown quantities much of the time everyone should be fairly knowledgeable on who they think can do a job for their national side. Folk wanted Gordon gone but even the fans baying for blood knew that there was no replacement of any quality or experience to come in.
Strachan is a wee carrot.

Us effing about with the new manager doesn't make him any less of a wee arsehole

He sacked himself with his Stone Age outlook and general bawbaggery. eff him and his merry band of Championship players. eff the SFA too.
