Has Hughes ever won anything as a manager?
Not sure it's a pre-req for the Stoke job. Winning down there now means not being relegated. Very few teams with higher ambitions than that.
It is weird though. Happens up here too

In Europe there seems to be quite regular left field appointments.
Not here though, Cathrine although proved to be quite pish, never stood a chance. Seems the same down the road

Maybe the more foreign owners that take over the manager merry go round might break?

No he hasn't won anything as a manager.

Blackburn, Man City (for a year when the cash first appeared & he was signing Robinho & Benjani), Fulham, QPR & Stoke.

His records on a par with Moyes.
I guess his whole career is built on being one of Fergies old players and naturally appearing to be a bit dour and managerish.

Doesn’t matter if he is any good, he ticks enough boxes.

I liked the look of Hughes as a manager when he was at Blackburn, but his career has just seemed on a downward spiral since. A handsomely paid downward spiral at that

He could spot a bargain and rejuvenate players who were having a bad time, Santa Cruz, McCarthy, Bentley, Ooijer, Samba.

I’m surprised Hughes lasted as long as he did at Stoke. He’s been there nearly five years and I think most people thought he’d last about half a season. Bit of a pish way to end it but he definitely moved Stoke away from the pish Pulis had them playing, which was the owners wanted.

Read “Hughes - who else will do it” (the Stoke job) comments, stupid move by an arrogant, lower than average manager, so it was no surprise to see the Stoke board considering his position.

I think he is one of the less well paid managers in England's top league. Doesn't excuse their crapness this year but they have finished comfortably mid table most years under Hughes. A lot of Stoke fans bemoaning selling on mainstays from the last few years when in reality the likes of Whelan, Walters, etc are past their best. They also criticised Pulis' style something which Hughes was trying to move away from. Hasn't worked.

He did move them away from it, was doing well, then lost a few and started giving Crouch a game again.

Would that be CM 01-02 goal-machine Cherno Samba, by any chance?
