Think Reiziger is in as interim manager for the time being, to be fair.

They papped their principles and are now another 'FFS don't get relegated' team. Shat it round about when Laudrup's team burned out.

Funnily enough, since the stupid money in the EPL became king.

They were doing alright up until the fans sold out to the Americans.

They sacked Guidolin and brought in Bob Bradley it pretty much signalled the end of the Swansea 'philosophy'.

Think they've effed it. There isn't many Rodgers-esque managers kicking about the English lower tiers for them to get back on track.

I agree with you about Koeman. All seemed a bit hasty. In terms of Silva, regardless of the league is has demonstrated that hes a more than capable coach, but as he's only just taken a job at Watford it was the wrong time.

If he was to stay there until the end of next season, when Allardyce's contract ends, Everton could do worse.
Koeman is a poor manager, who lucked his way into a decent setup at Southampton.
Not having that he's a poor manager.

He started the rebuilding job at Feyenoord where they went from losing 10-0 to PSV & facing going bust to getting them in to the Champions League qualifiers & 2nd to Ajax. He took a young Ajax team to the quarter finals of the Champions League knocking out the English champions & French champions & the previous seasons Italian champions.

Won the league in his only season at PSV, won the league twice with Ajax in 4 years in a period where PSV had dominated.

He lasted one season at Benfica, couldn't retain the title but got to the Champions League quarters knocking out the holders. Almost relegated Valencia in 2008 which was stunning but did win the Copa Del Rey with them.

I don't know why people talk him up for the Arsenal or for some reason the Barca job but his records better than most.

"Not having that".

The reason that Southampton are the role model for this type of club is that the manger is little more than a first team coach who's job it is to follow their template.

One of their execs did a stand-up on it at Hampden a few weeks ago explaining the structure of the club and how it works. Evidence proves that it works.

Ironically, yesterday's departure of Eric Black might be the thing that has a negative impact, as the whole thing is dependent upon having a permanent guy in his position - unlike the manager, players etc.

I wouldn’t underestimate the importance of the head coach, even at a well run club like Southampton. Last year wasn’t great and they’re currently just three points above the relegation spots. A few defeats over the Christmas period and I can see them joining the other EPL panic merchants in trying to entice a Pulis/Allardyce type manager to keep them up.

Everyone from 10th down in that league is only a few points off the relegation zone. Seems to be a massive gap opening up again between the top 6 or so and everyone else. Saw it pretty obviously last season. Which then hilariously results in about 15 team that have spent about a billion quid between them who are all as bad as each other, essentially swapping managers with each other while bobbing up and down from the league below.

Wasn't intended to underestimate, just pointing out that the manager has very limited responsibilities at a club like Southampton.

The manager is given a squad and a formation, and asked to work within those parameters. Like others at Southampton (and a few other clubs), he did well within those parameters but was a distaster when given additional responsibilities.

Just my opinion, but he's got a poor managerial record and I don't really rate him.

Koeman was always getting sacked at Everton. Like most managers given a position like that he tried too much too soon.
