Radio Scotland reporting that the SFA have decided that Michael O’Neill is the man they want and will meet any compensation fee. O’Neill is apparently very interested and it’s now for him to decide.
I don't really know why he'd leave...aside from being offered more money by the SFA?

I suppose Scotland have actually got a better squad than NI, and perhaps he feels like he's taken NI as far as they can, the only way is down etc?

I dunno, I'm surprised he's not looking to get back into club management tbh, surely there's a championship club about to sack someone that would offer him a job?

In an ideal world he'd be hanging around in case a club want him but I can't see any of note taking the plunge.

Northern Ireland have a good few of their squad retiring whereas Scotland now have a pretty decent squad, centre half aside. He'll quadruple his salary too, apparently.

No major compensation to be paid, it makes sense for all parties imo.

Aye, well, "local" - aye, probably beyond the point of no return for that these days. Hope he does well at Clyde, always liked Danny Lennon. Seems a good guy, and always struck me as a good coach.

o'neill's success with NI is down to a rock solid defence built on a couple of english premier league centre halves

with scotland he'll be working with berra and mulgrew

and the football is absolutely dire

he'd be a disaster for scotland

At the rate we're clocking up years not being able to scrape over the line to a major finals, I couldn't really give a eff how the next manager has us playing as long as it gets us there just for a change.

Brendan Rodgers has shown us what can be done with our Scottish players. No reason why a new International manager can't use this as a template and be successful.

He did really well at St Mirren, had them comfortably midtable & winning the League Cup, 4 years on & he's in the lowest tier in Scottish football.

Quite a downfall, was surprised no SPL clubs wanted him in 2013 after leaving St Mirren

What better way to resolve the MON vs WGS debate than to appoint Martin to the Scotland job?

Michael? Hasn't he won as many games as he's lost?

Or is it more accurate to say that he had a hideous start that skews these figures and was then consistently good afterwards? Or is he crap, and the good results skew the figures?

Don't get this Michael O'Neill for Scotland chat either. Can't see why it would be a good move for him, other than the fact he lives here. You'd think if he wanted to progress then a club job might be the way forward. And just because he's done it with NI doesn't mean he can automatically replicate it with Scotland.

But then, the other realistic candidate seems to be Paul Lambert.

Also, Michael O'Neill apparently a sevco target? Who came up with that and who is their dealer?

O’Neill leaving NI for Scotland doesn’t feel right, not least because it chapens international football that a manager would give up managing his own country to manage someone else’s for a few extra quid.
