I think people might be overstating the managerial prowess of Steve Clarke. Clearly a good assistant manager but his managerial record is sacked by West Brom and sacked by Reading.

His pedigree for the top job is about on par with what Lee Clark’s was.
Think I posted something earlier this week when he was linked with this job and had a poster saying it was a real drop for him

His actual managerial ( not his time as an assistant) career is nigh non existent and shows nothing to suggest he is someone with the necessary skills

Quoting limited to 3 levels deepFfs... I'm all for genuine rehabilitation and second chances
Yeah i see that.....

I am not saying McKay should be given the Scotland job, I just don't think his previous actions should be taken into account when his actions since should be ignored.

Just my opinion and I have said my bit...will leave it there[/b]
Nothing interested in getting involved in an unnecessary stramash either and actually take your point re Mackay on board but as someone who has spent 6 years working with ex-offenders as head of an Integrated offender Management team what you can see about my attitude to second chances is limited at best.

Fair enough - and very noble - if often thankless work

I have a mate who supports reading. He loathes Clarke, says he is a massive pumpkin who is always looking for his next move.

Will fit in well with the nanohuns, then.

Hilarious listening odd occasions a St Mirren fan calls snyde and he is in.

He gets his collar felt and the excuse barometer goes through the roof about how sh!te he was in Paiskey yet has a go at Archibald who is having a tough time after terrific 2 seasons at Thistle. He has done more than Rae ever has managerially.

Malky McKay has taken numerous courses and has also undertaken a lot of speeches to school kids and others about racism and misogyny. He's faced up to the fact that what he wrote in 3 texts out of thousands was wrong. He's publicly spoken out about it yet some people would deny him his livelihood.
I know what he did is wrong and so does he. He's now an advocate for inclusion so he deserves a chance without all the moral crusaders having a go when it is very likely that those same people have likely overstepped the mark unwittingly as I know I have.
Yawn.

No-one is denying the reformed Malky X a livelihood. However, he shouldn't be the figurehead for the game in Scotland. I wouldn't trust him to give an appropriate message to children, never mind the whole football community.

The SFA once again have proven how utterly tone deaf they are.
Yes you are denying his livelihood. You are saying there are some jobs you can do, some you can’t. He did something very wrong and deservedly paid a heavy price both in reputation and financially by losing the Palace job.

But if those who have to make the decision, can be convinced that he has learned from that mistake , then he should be allowed to continue his career at whatver club or country who wants whether you trust him or not.

To those claiming McKay's past behaviour should exclude him from ever representing Scotland, should Leigh Griffiths' past behaviour exclude him from ever representing Scotland too? Or Celtic, for that matter?
I was going to post the same thing. You can't excuse/not excuse one and not the other. They both made fools of themselves but if they learned from it then let them get on.

The circumstances are different though. Griffiths was an immature guy in his early 20s when he had his racist incidents. McKay was a man in his 40s deemed mature enough to be the manager at a multi-million pound football club. Both deserved to be condemned at the time but with Griffiths there was always that feeling that he was a bit of an idiot who maybe didn't know any better. With McKay it was the opposite.

When people eff up, sometimes that results in them not being able to do certain things. Sometimes that thing is working in a specific type of job. This should be one of those cases.

I'm sure that the goalscoring Celtic striker has more influence over young impressionable children than another nonentity managing the Scotland national team ever will.

We've got one of them who was charged by the Police for racism.

There are no morals in football, if he was a good manager he'd be given the job, football is an industry that turns a blind eye to racists, drunk drivers, adulterers, woman beaters so long as they are a good footballer/manager.

He won't get the job because he's not a good manager, no other reason.

Yes he should but we are not all perfect and people make mistakes. I'm all for getting giving people a chance, if he does it again crucify him, if he doesn't let him get on with his life.

I know a few men of that age still running about wanting to fight other football supporters, and 22 year old's that laugh at the very suggestion.

It's strange that some folk doubt that such people exist.
