If countries like Italy, Germany and France can appoint young managers then I don't see why we can't.
It seems all Scotland has to choose from is a list of washed up, had their time guys ready for the scrap heap.
By the way, I don't have the answer.

The list of likely candidates is utterly depressing. We need to be thinking forward, any of those will put us another 10 years behind.

If the salary package is acceptable, I reckon it will be Moyes, eventually. It might not happen until December or January, to save on the additional salary as much as anything else.

Last time round Levein was sacked in early November and Strachan was appointed in the middle of the following January, and that was halfway through a campaign.

Even if it was a January appointment there's plenty of time to prepare for competitive games that don't start until September 2018.

I reckon the Scotland job is marginally more attractive at this point as the next tournament is a Euros, so the chances of qualifying are greater than the WC. The chance to be the person who eventually gets a Scotland team qualifying for a major tournament will be treated as some sort of footballing God (for about five minutes at least). People have seen what can be done with NI, Rep Ire and Wales. The Nations League is arguably something new rather than playing gash friendlies all over the shop.

He's damaged by what happened at Sunderland, and I reckon he'll know other opportunities at that level are probably gone unless or until he manages to turn around an ailing Championship team. The pedigree is otherwise there, even if the decline in fortunes has been rather spectacular. It shouldn't be an issue (but it is sadly) but Moyes is *relatively* untainted by the whole 'He's a hun/he's a tim' stuff, 25 games for the Hoops or not.

He seemed to be at the recent Slovakia game, which was part ironic, part curious. He also lives in the Ribble, so it's a short hop up the road for him to get what is basically a part time gig and leaves him pretty well placed to watch all the mediocre Championship games he needs to.

Possibly the worst suggestion yet, until someone mentions Stuart Baxter.

Ronny Deila, the former Celtic-manager has found a new way to motivate his players. Before the game vs Brann he was NUDE at the TeamMeeting

got them their first win in a while so obviously worked

Read (or heard) that Sam Allardyce is too patriotic towards England to even consider the Scotland job and in any case would be priced out of taking it.

As for Strachan, his own stubbornness contributed to the overall failure.

gives me the heave the way the media paint it like we missed out on qualifying when it was really a play off place.

I really dislike Sam allardyce.
He said something about Celtic years ago that I didn't like when he was Bolton manager and both clubs were after the same player. I can't remember his exact words but I've disliked him since then.

I have absolutely no idea who should get the job.
Ancelottis just been sacked hasn't he.?

Get Billy Davies in there.

His trusty sidekick Dalziel as assistant.

And various members of his family onto the SFA payroll.

Mark wilson in charge of team nights oot so he can grass on any fights and say he wasn't there in court

Some good points here and the farce that is the SFA will most probably go for him.

His stock is pretty low no fee to pay and wages will be affordable.

He is not exactly a visionary and for me would be a sidewrds step. For the SFA he fits their modus operandi. They sincerely lack creativity and a vision.

I think Moyes is in Strachan mould of yesterday's man and he has a patchy CV at best. Personally would go for Sam if we can afford him.

Results everywhere he has been, football aint the best but results driven gaffer as you can get on these shores. Players seem to respond to him and respect him... that's what it is all about.

Just wish they want him but absolutely no chance SFA would.

I like the idea of having a forward thinking manager who can get Scotland playing a more attractive type of football, but I'm just not sure we have the players for that. It was Strachan's stubbornness that cost Scotland in that group rather than his pragmatism so maybe another manager, with a similar approach but picking the correct players, would get us over the line. It's difficult to watch right enough, and if it goes wrong there's little grace afforded a cautious manager.

Having said all that, and from a completely blinkered and biased point of view, I'd be tempted to offer it to Chris Davies. Obviously if it doesn't impact his work here.

back then the Bolton scouting strategy was to go after whoever celtic are linked with

There are worse managers the sfa could go for (and probably will)

Killie supposed to be announcing their manager today and he's tipped for that.

:brickwall:

It is. Just popped over to bbc Scottish gossip.

Mcleish, mackay, moyes, lambert all got media pals pushing it.

Do these people ever learn?? Obviously not.

Out of that lot lambert is slightly appealing but he has been as good as he has been poor as club gaffer.

Truly despair between our media and their pals, SFA and either managers who where decent 10 years ago or managers who have good connections at SFA.

Clark as Killie manager and Scotland number 2 could work as from what I saw at the Albion, ( I live by West Brom and half my family support them) he never had it in him to be a good manager but is an incredible number 2

That would actually be a surprisingly competent appointment by them, if they do actually pull it off.

He's basically been operating in a different sport compared to Kenny Shiels, Locke, Clark, Elbows and their attempts to make Kilmarnock something other than absolutely howling for at least a decade.
