Is this Ferguson stuff an elaborate multi-level whoosh that I'm failing to see?

Aye, I'm sure at 75 years old he's absolutely desperate to up sticks from his Prestbury mansion 60 days a year to take the Scotland job, right enough. I bet he can't wait to consider the merits for inclusion of stellar talents like Andrew Shinnie and Jamie Walker. :cuckoo:
Less hours than a lollypop wummin. What's not to like.

Heynckes is 72.
So he's three years older than Heynckes, who himself had been retired for four years? It's not sounding any more feasible!

If Ferguson has finally been able to make peace with retirement there's no chance of Scotland getting him, however for years he openly talked about how retirement terrified him & that it was a death sentence, certainly said it helped his father's demise.

That said, if his wife hadn't lost her sister & her health allegedly took a swing for the worst, it's debatable if he retires in 2013.

Strachan really is a dinosaur. He was forced into picking the right team and formation. Soon as he had excuse he abandoned it. Playing tow up front (one about a s mobile as a tree) is stupid in an away game with weakened midfield. He said he didn't have midfielders due to injury but surely Fletcher, McGinn and McGregor with Philips/Forrest on wings would have been much stronger than nonsense he put on the field. His constant selection of people who are not even getting a game for club side is baffling. His refusal to select in form Celtic players earlier in campaign equally difficult to understand. He must go...
I agree mostly with what you say.
I find it also baffling he picked that team and that strategy.
If he wants giants why pick a really wee guy????
Cal Mac is not small and can really play in the right system
I like WGS and I dont really want him to go but ..but..
oh dear he may have to for being as others say a dinosaur in the field of tactics
systems.

The more you see Strachan's post match "genetically behind" interview, the worse it gets.
He point blank refuses to recognise his own failings. And he never will.
He has to go. :Bye:

Gary McAllister might not be that mental a shout. If the plan is to build the team around the Celtic players then getting a manager who has worked closely with Brendan, and understands his methods and tactics, makes sense. McAllister was a senior member of his coaching team at Liverpool.

Can't say I'd be overly excited by the prospect of Alex Ferguson getting the job. Huge respect for what he's done in the game, but his time has been and gone and I don't see a 75 year old coming out of retirement as a progressive move.

What we need is a manager at an earlier stage in his career who's prepared to commit 100% to the job for a few years and build his reputation on his stint as national manager.....A Scottish Michael O'Neill if you like.

Who it would be I don't know - someone with the tactical nous to make the best of what he has at his disposal, man management skills to motivate players, the initiative to go and look beyond the obvious candidates for the squad and the balls to ride out the disapproval from the media and fans if/when he drops some of their favourites.

No idea who that manager would be - I guess it's down to the SFA to find suitable candidates and decide who has the tools and the vision to move Scotland on from the "we just don't have the players" mindset.

Spence is spot on -

Jim Spence‏ @JimSpenceSport 7h7 hours ago

The mindset of GS now ensures he cannot continue in the job. If he truly believes his genetic theory stands, then he truly believes we are incapable of achieving very much at all. And that was just v Slovenia. His comment is more damaging than the actual failure to qualify.

Yup.

Strachan basically said "we're technically fine, just a bit wee". Generally, of course, it has in fact been the opposite.

Agree with what Remy said earlier, the SFA should be pushing the boat out for Sir Alex. No harm in asking the question.

I can't see Ferguson being interested in taking on the manager's role, but if there's an international equivalent of a Director of Football he should be offered it.

If Spiers is correct, we're stuck with him.

Graham Spiers‏ @GrahamSpiers 5m5 minutes ago

Lest there is any confusion about Gordon Strachan's future...he will inform the SFA of his decision, not the other way about.

He's never stuck around in a managerial role for more than 5 years.

I think he'll walk.

He should be sacked for his comments, offensive in the extreme.
Genetics - that's some seriously dodgy talk right there.
As bad as Malky.
