Strachan really is scraping the bottom of the barrel with his comments re about genetics dictating his selections is beyond ridiculous :cuckoo:

Maybe if the stubborn git had played players who were really playing in form during this campaign it might have turned out differently :suspect:

Strachan really is a dinosaur. He was forced into picking the right team and formation. Soon as he had excuse he abandoned it. Playing tow up front (one about a s mobile as a tree) is stupid in an away game with weakened midfield. He said he didn't have midfielders due to injury but surely Fletcher, McGinn and McGregor with Philips/Forrest on wings would have been much stronger than nonsense he put on the field. His constant selection of people who are not even getting a game for club side is baffling. His refusal to select in form Celtic players earlier in campaign equally difficult to understand. He must go...

You can understand why he's felt he needed to start Martin, he's essentially 'got' the goal(s) that gave us this chance so you can imagine Strachan thinking 'ach I've got to give the lad a start' Likewise he can't leave out Griffiths. He's clearly a huge fan of a large inside forward in the hopes that the opposite flank fullback (who happens to be a fantastic crosser of a ball) will be able to hit the back post with some crosses and find that large IF charging in. You can also see why he picks Bannan in that he's full of energy and the only times the ball got passed forwards after being turned over from their attack, it was generally Bannan who was making the pass. I know, I know. He wouldn't make my team, I'm just trying to put myself in GS' shoes.

I can forgive that logic if you manage the win. We didn't though so now he has to look at his tactics and reevaluate and there lies the problem for GS. He dumped the formation that had us pressing high against Slovakia (and creating a good few chances) and instead let his old 'got to play with 2 strikers' mentality come back and play a 4-4-2 with Bannan on the left? Was he hoping Griffiths would drift out to the left and leave Martin through the middle?

Just can't understand someone who dumps the tactics that dragged us back into this for the one that killed creativity and saw us draw with Lithuania at home.

Alongside that you're looking at 2 pieces of defensive bampottery the likes of which should be banished. I know it was a cracking ball in but it's a ball that still has to be won. KT did it with an almost identical cross. As for their second, I swear to f*ck I'd give my '09 time pelters for that.

Should offer Alex Ferguson what he wants.
Basically, this.
Yup.

I'd accept John Collins, too.

Just don't hit us with some boring 'easy' choice like Lambert.
Given the choice between John Collins or literally anybody else, I'd go for the latter.

Give us Big Sam
:nono: Theres been enough corruption in Scottish football already.

Although we will never be world beaters, this lump it up the park to the big man is awful. A manager that wants to get the ball down and play would be good.

So........ New Scotland manager?
Currently sitting in the Sky studio....John Collins.

Right footballing ideas, wouldn’t think twice about playing youngsters.

He’d be my pick.
I concur.

there is the makings of a decent team there if they were well managed

as remy said it should be ferguson and they should do all they can to make it attractive to him - allowing him to sack strachan personally might help

As being said, Ferguson for me. It's the right time for him too with regards to players available for selection.

Is this Ferguson stuff an elaborate multi-level whoosh that I'm failing to see?

Aye, I'm sure at 75 years old he's absolutely desperate to up sticks from his Prestbury mansion 60 days a year to take the Scotland job, right enough. I bet he can't wait to consider the merits for inclusion of stellar talents like Andrew Shinnie and Jamie Walker. :cuckoo:

I'm not sure SAF will want to take the job at 75. Especially witnessing at first hand what happened to his mentor in Big Jock :(

Wonder if Heynckes would be interested in the Scotland job at the end of the season

Probably not.

What's not to like, from his perspective? A fair bit, I'd say.

He left Manchester United as English Champions, the culmination of over a quarter of a century of service, with a score of trophies or more in the cabinet.

Trying in vain to plot a course from third to second place in an international qualifying group with Scotland is probably as good a way of creating some self inflicted damage to your hard earned reputation and legacy that I can think of.
