There's a real dearth of quality candidates for the Scotland job. Those who have achieved things in management (Moyes, McLeish, Lambert) have all had a wretched few years and look like dinosaurs in the modern game. Looking around the SPL, there's no obvious home-based candidate either. Derek McInnes probably has the best recent CV but that says more about the others than him.

The SFA will keep strachan.
And I don't think he'll resign.
IF he does go, heard from a well placed source it will likely be Malky Mackay

Where was Clarkes upward part of his managerial career.. ;)

He had about a year at West Brom and got bagged and had similar at Reading

He has absolutely no record of any note as a manager in his own right :ponder:

He's lucky to be in the frame
I don't rate the guy but he was linked with us at a point. WBA, Reading, Villa, Killie is a serious slump.
More than linked as he was interviewed for the manager's job

Scotland job should go to a hun like McLeish or The Waistcoat. Strachan should be used as a training toy for the guard dug at Largs. I genuinely think that with this generation of players passing, attractive, winning football is achievable.

We could, and probably will, do a lot worse.

Would never happen, though.

eff it, I'd take John Collins. Better than Davie Disaster or some old Hun. Lambert would be alright I guess, but think that's more my affection for him as a player talking.

He's making a fortune swanning about unis talking about management techniques. Canny see him entertaining the idea.

I'd rather not imagine the many inappropriate words that might used in his pre-match speeches to the players.

I’d take Michael O’Neill. Think he stays in Scotland most of the year, so he might be tempted. Probably not the most glamorous of suggestions but then again it’s not exactly the most glamorous of jobs at the moment.

Edit: if NI qualify for Russia then this is immediately blown out of the water.

The manager of Scotland should be a Scot. Appointing someone who wouldn't be eligible to play for Scotland goes against the whole spirit of international football.

Given he's already on the payroll, there's probably a high chance he'd be caretaker manager until a permanent manager was appointed.

He'll beat Canada or New Zealand in a friendly in March. Probably 3-1. Kenny McIntyre et al will start their shows with 'Malky McKay, has the answer been there all along?' and that'll be that.

Isn't international football meant to be about the best one country has to offer competing against the best another country has to offer? In my view that should apply to managers as much as players.
