Are they going to have a DoF now then or not? Hard to believe they're going to dump the 'structure' after the endless fawning of the Scottish media over the 'plan' Budge has.

Seems like they're making it up as they go along.
He's just in to the end of the season supposedly. Gives them a bit of breathing space to consider the whole idea.

I liked Levein's Hearts team. Regularly qualified for Europe and scudded Hibs. Great home record too.

I'm happy with the appointment, but the fact this took four weeks is farcical.
It did seem odd to me that the person best qualified at the club to manage Hearts was sitting in the directors box rather than the dugout. I know there's maybe more "prestige" in being a director but the guy in the dugout is easily the most important person at any club, as we're discovering with Rodgers. Suspect Ann Budge has now realised this and is making Levein earn his wages.

Hearts give a spectacular collective impression that they don't have a scooby what they are doing, at most levels. Or somehow being in the thrall of Craig Levein, which might amount to the same thing.

Yeah they won the Championship a few seasons back, are building a new stand, have the benefit of the Foundation and all that, but still.

They hand the reigns to a complete novice who, if simple observation of his utter garbled nonsense over a seven month period in post is any indication of his input pre-appointment, should have been binned from the reckoning in the first round of interviews.

Once dismissed they spend fully 28 days attempting to recruit a successor - inexplicably even giving Billy Davies some publicity in the process - before opting for the guy who has been there for three years.

They apparently now need stability given the building of a new stand, something they knew was happening when they gave the job to a 29 year old. That line would be a bit different if Daly had won at the weekend and got the gig.

This is all punctuated by frequent church newsletter type updates from Budge, where the high point seems to be explaining they forgot to buy seats for their new stand. Cringeworthy nonsense going out in the name of openness.

Absolute shambles of an outfit.

She hasn't got a clue.

Telling the world you forgot to order seats for a new stand you are already attempting to build on a ridiculous schedule - amongst many other excruciating reveals - is not transparency. It's proof to anyone who might be considering investing for any reason that you are running your business like a complete numpty.

You could go on. Cash cows, auctioning a boat trip, ask-the-manager-for-15-quid session, Conor Sammon on a three year deal, that January transfer window.

Seems like they are getting through wallpaper sheets of acid down Gorgie at the moment.

The reason people don't like Levein is squarely down to his time at the Scotland job and his behaviour as Hearts DOF.

He's never been anti-Celtic, but has certainly been anti-Rangers in his time.

He'll go down in history as the innovator of the 4-6-0.
To be fair he was way ahead of his time, he invented the false nine position, unfortunately it coincided with him inventing the false rest of the positions.

.....and a complicated build that they first attempted without appointing a Principal Contractor.

Inexperience of the build was the cause of the delay, a PC would not have made that basic error.

When is it due to finished?? Saw the Levein interview on Sky and it looks a long way off completion. And nothing to do with delayed ordering of seats! They are well off fitting them.

Strange appointment and a strange way to do business. Levein was a decent manager and had good spells at Hearts and Dundee United. His teams were always tough to beat. However, his term as National manager and then as DoF at Hearts have not been successful. His spell out of direct management in club football is 8 years, so whether he emulates his first sell, over 10 years ago or his ill fate Leicester/Scotland success I am sure we will see very quickly. I just find it strange the Hearts board have someone who is coach, DOF and board member and all that after interviewing (or expressions of interest in the press) from some decent managers.

Anyway, he will always have an honorable mention after his rant about referee bias towards Rangers during his spell at DU.

They are selling tickets for three matches at Murrayfield against the Sheep, St Johnstone and the Sevco up until the end of October.

That would mean they would return to Tynecastle for their next home game on 5 November against Kilmarnock. Pretty tight.

Think they would start to run into difficulties beyond October as Scotland play New Zealand and Australia at Murrayfield from mid November onwards.

I think he well in the job but his style of game is pretty dire. Results business etc so I think they will get top 6.

Did he not get them in Europa league groups as well IIRC?? :ponder:

Craig Levein is a Hearts supporter. He doesn't hate Celtic at all. That's from a stablemate of his, if not the actual horses mouth.

Had some great results under him in Europe. Beat Bordeaux, Basel and Braga.

The new stand delay was a shambles, but it did result in us getting rid of the Hunnish oaf Scot Gardiner. Well worth it.
