Bank holiday for me so off work but my gaffer is a big jambo.

Don't think he will be happy at leiven. Cannot recollect him being a great player but he swears he is the best hearts player he has seen??

Said he lost out on a move to Manchester United back in the day (?)but I genuinely cannot remember or was to young to have any real knowledge
Career was cut short by bad injury but apparently he was a player.
He was a real quality player, blighted by injury.

It should be pointed out for the younger posters that Hogg was his teammate when he decked him  A preseason friendly against Raith Rovers, an insight into the commitment he expects...

He was a good central defender but nothing that special. His career was cut short early but that was still 28/29 if I remember correctly, so he would have got a better gig than Hearts if he had real pedigree. A step up from Steven Pressley, probably not as good as David Weir :ph43r:
He'd been knackered by injuries long before he retired.
Levein was real quality 85-90.

Only really started following the league in the early 90's after Italia 90. Was he involved in their title tilt in 1985-86?

Yup. He was a better CB than weir in his heyday too.

Very much doubt he was ever celtic inclined though, having been in his company a couple of times.

Levein was a cracking player who won the young footballer of the year award two years in a row in an era when Scottish football was full of terrific youngsters. Also held his own at international level at a time when Scotland had an abundance of very capable centre backs available. Picked up a horrible knee injury at a time when players didn't come back from those type of injuries as routinely as they do now and was never the same player afterwards.

Yes. He was a very useful player in his day.

As for management.......

I don't think Craig had this appointment in mind, at all. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Levein had a fairly decent record at Hearts as a manager first time around.

His time in England didn't go so well, though. Most of his signings for Leicester were duds from the SPL. But he often seemed to be a motivator in cup games.

Not a fan of Levein by any means, but I still love this old interview of his.

I liked Levein's Hearts team. Regularly qualified for Europe and scudded Hibs. Great home record too.

I'm happy with the appointment, but the fact this took four weeks is farcical.

At least now he has to stand up and be counted as opposed to orchestrating things and allowing others to take the flack.

His role in Cathro's failure was overstated IMO.

But he has played a part and at least now he will be held accountable.

Are they going to have a DoF now then or not? Hard to believe they're going to dump the 'structure' after the endless fawning of the Scottish media over the 'plan' Budge has.

Seems like they're making it up as they go along.

Could this be to save a bit of cash as the stand is costing a bit more than expected?
