Is MacPhee gone? I thought he was taking temporary charge on Saturday.
Still there and he's taking the team. I just wonder if Hearts might see if there's some sort of bounce with him in temporary charge. Very difficult given the run of away games mind you.

Austin is an excellent coach - but more importantly has the man-management skills Cathro lacked. SFA wanted him instead of MacKay.
I can see him taking over, especially when you consider Hearts wont want to pay compensation for anyone.

We'd still have won the league that Hearts side were good but you'd lucky if more than 1 or 2 of their players would have got in our team.

Player for player Feck had a better team at Oldco but finished behind them
Gordon still gets in our side and Hartley and Presley both did at one point too. Skacel was also an excellent player in his day and the full backs Nielsen & Fysass were probably better than Telfer/Camera. That was a strong Hearts team.
Not ahead of Boruc he wouldn't not the Boruc of 2005 to 2008 anyway.

Hartley got a game for us but Pressley was a squad player who filled in when we had injuries he was never a first pick. Fysas would get in before Camera definitely not sure about Neilson.

Skacel was good for them but I think his ridiculous start where he scored in his first 10 games similar to Stokes at Falkirk blinds some people to how good he was.

Think Cathro is one of these guys who has a lot of intelligence with regards to the game, how it should be played and how players should perform, his issue perhaps is getting that message across and motivating a squad to work with him and buy into his methods. His age may well go against him, senior players may not take kindly to criticism from a young, inexperienced coach who's never played the game but then I suppose that's the players attitude rather than his issue.

Cathro will crash and burn a few times in similar circumstances but his mentality will be warmed to somewhere eventually. Could've made a decent assistant manager at Hearts before taking the team on completely.

I asked it at the time but what is it that made Cathro "innovative"? It seems to me that whilst some folk were, rightly to an extent, called dinosaurs for their kneejerk criticism of the appointment plenty of others were heaping praise on Hearts and Cathro simply because he wasn't one of the old boys network.

It seems that Kris Boyd, someone who actually had dealings with him was far more accurate in his assessment than the likes of Ewan Murray who praised the appointment to the heavens and arrogantly dismissed any naysayers.

A disastrous appointment.
Cathro was 30 when appointed, so obviously by definition that made him a progressive coach.
That seemed to be the thinking without anyone actually trying to find out what kind of coach he actually is.

Sections of the media had it in for him from day one, which made life much more difficult. I couldn't understand the reaction from guys/manbabies like monster munch.

Cathro had it stacked against him from the start but he really didn't help himself at times, and looked a bit lost.

This experience will either make or break his future career as a manager imo

Skacel was just suited to Hearts. He was never a success anywhere else.

People forget the best player in that team, Jankauskas. He was a bit too old when he came to us but he was still utter class.

So, basically, Craig Levein is still in charge and there's a new guy to lay out the cones and take press conferences.

An unused substitute the night Porto won the Champions League was he not?

I liked Brellier and one of the eastern European boys Cesnouskas played wide?

That Hearts team is the best team not to play in Glasgow I've seen in Scottish football but in 2005/2006 player for player not many would get in to us us & Oldco team.

Underachieved really only the 1 Cup to show for it & you almost cocked that up.

Fabrizio Ravanelli has applied according to SSN

his managerial career consists of 5 months in charge of Ajaccio in France back in 2013

Hearts have worked hard to stop being the clown show they were during the Romanov years. The list of so-called applicants for this job has "roll up! roll up! roll up!" written all over it

Agree - that's probably the best squad a Scottish team has had outwith us and Them for the last 25 years.

Gordon, Fyssas and Jankauskas were genuine quality and guys like Bednar, Skacel, Hartley etc were all handy players.

Monster Munch was right. Cathro was way out of his depth.
Boyd said he had no man management skills and wouldn't have a clue how to handle a dressing room. All he had going for him was his tactics and drills spreadsheets.

By all accounts it was the latter which let him down so I'd say Boyd was way off.
