Archibald is well thought of
Not by Thistle fans I know. They see him as being too negative.

He's still got a few to do in yet. It'll be Stockport or Southport level next though - that's got to be him done at Championship level surely?

The Thistle fans I know adore him.

Took them from 9 years of misery in the lower leagues to 5 years in the top flight & made the top 6 last year.

I just hope they don't appoint Pressley. Don't think I could cope with seeing and hearing from him on a regular basis.

Cathro has been sacked by Hearts.
Never looked like working. Innovative appointment but players never bought into his methods.
I asked it at the time but what is it that made Cathro "innovative"? It seems to me that whilst some folk were, rightly to an extent, called dinosaurs for their kneejerk criticism of the appointment plenty of others were heaping praise on Hearts and Cathro simply because he wasn't one of the old boys network.

It seems that Kris Boyd, someone who actually had dealings with him was far more accurate in his assessment than the likes of Ewan Murray who praised the appointment to the heavens and arrogantly dismissed any naysayers.

A disastrous appointment.

Like most clubs, they have had a few belters in over the years!! That Lithuanian guy, Burley, Rix, and Cathro etc.

Wonder what Rudi Skacel is up to these days?
Burley had them performing really well, then Mad Vlad got involved

No' sure he really deserves to be included there. I'm not saying he would have kept up their good form, but no one knows how it would have turned out if that eejit hadn't got involved.
We'd still have won the league that Hearts side were good but you'd lucky if more than 1 or 2 of their players would have got in our team.

Player for player Feck had a better team at Oldco but finished behind them
Gordon still gets in our side and Hartley and Presley both did at one point too. Skacel was also an excellent player in his day and the full backs Nielsen & Fysass were probably better than Telfer/Camera. That was a strong Hearts team.

They probably should but I cannae see Hartley being happy getting 'notes' at half time from some carrot sitting in the stand.

Gordon wouldn't have got in our team, Boruc was at his peak at that time. He'd probably have been a better backup than whoever we had that year though (still Marshall? :ponder: ).

Hartley & Skacel wouldn't have got anywhere near the team - we still had Petrov, Lennon & Thompson plus Nakamura, McGeady & Maloney, and then Roy Keane came in on loan in January. Admittedly Thompson wasn't far off being done as a player and Strachan never liked him, but every one of the others was better than Hartley & Skacel at the time.

Pressley might have got a game ahead of Stephen McManus I suppose, and you're probably right about Neilson & Fyssas being better than Telfer & Camara. Certainly no worse anyway.

Cathro was 30 when appointed, so obviously by definition that made him a progressive coach.

Michael Stewart on telly last night saying they have to get rid of Levein too. If they are to get anyone in worth their salt, I'd say getting Levein out is essential, but it's unlikely. F*** them anyway, dirty hun bastards.

I think Levein's role is genuinely overstated. Nobody questioned it when things were going well. The signings made this summer were clearly made by Austin MacPhee. The only signing with a link to Levein was Berra, and he basically approached the club to ask if they'd let him join, which obviously they were going to agree to.

I've said it before, Levein's teams weren't always exciting, but they were always defensively solid first and foremost. Cathro's team never was, at any point.

My dream choice is Michael O'Neill. I'd take a Tommy Wright or Peter Houston. I love Paul Hartley but I'm not sure he's right for us just now.
Is Pressley available? If so, would you be happy with him?

For me, the person who has fallen most victim to the Cathro experiment is Austin McPhee. I've really enjoyed him speaking, when I've heard him, and I like his attitude and philosophy.

Is MacPhee gone? I thought he was taking temporary charge on Saturday.

Still there and he's taking the team. I just wonder if Hearts might see if there's some sort of bounce with him in temporary charge. Very difficult given the run of away games mind you.

Austin is an excellent coach - but more importantly has the man-management skills Cathro lacked. SFA wanted him instead of MacKay.
