There was also Terry Butcher saying his team were just at Ibrox 'to get a suntan' the week before Black Sunday...

How does that manifest itself in practice though? For Dunfermline to deliberately "ship six" would require eleven players (plus substitutes) to collude to concede six goals. I just don't see how that kind of thing would be practical.
He stuck about four players up front for a start.
I'm sure there is a goal where the Dunfermline goalie goes down in instalments

I've never understood that 'laying down to the huns' chat.

Find it hard to believe any manager with an ounce of self-respect would tell his team to play like utter shampooe, or set them up for failure.
Totally agree
Stuart McCall
That's a really great point actually. I totally forgot that the Motherwell man told his Huns to lay down against 'Well in the 2014/15 playoffs!

"twisting!" "Shouting!" "shaking!".

God, I will miss Derek Rae....

To deflect from the McInness/Hun chat a bit... Billy Stark is the new East Kilbride manager
That's good news in a roundabout way
Good news? Do you have any concrete facts to back up your assertion?

A late friend of mine was good pals with Jimmy Nichol. As the season neared its end and the race got tighter, Nichol had no qualms about telling my mate: "If Rangers need goals, they'll get goals." He wasn't kidding and he said it several times. On the last day of the season, my mhate told me Dunfermline would ship six and we'd have to score six at Kilmarnock. Sadly, be was right.

TBF, Craig Brewster equalised at Ibrox and the game was tight until it became clear that we were hammering Kilmarnock. It was then that Dunfermline got out their spades and pails. :nono:

Exactly. It's virtually impossible to get eleven players on board to fix a match for financial gain, let alone persuade them to down tools for - erm - no particular reason other than the manager's talked them into it.

You're probably right. I mean, whoever heard of teams trying harder against some teams than others, or vice versa. Could never happen.

Surely they must have been a few Tims in the Dunfermline team that day ??

Weird one for McInnes. Sunderland are a basket case sure but if Aberdeen finish fifth next season he's up shampoo creek without a paddle.

Probably at least one or two. Was Derek Stillie not their keeper that day, he was just brutal full stop.
To be fair, have heard it said a few times the day Celtic won the League in 86 with the 5-0 at Love Street, there were a few St. Mirren players who weren't too bothered about putting a shift in during the game.

I find it hard to believe TBH that teams would lie down without it looking very obvious
At the risk of getting plelters.... does anyone question the Love Street result in our favour?

He was indeed and I thought about that prior to posting. Perhaps his players disobeyed him.
;)

TEG was right!
He was, however as we beat Dundee Utd the hun result was not relevant.

He was also the manager when Dunfermline rolled up at Ibrox back in 2003.

Calderwood used to drink in my local back then, I got to know him fairly well.
We started game 38 level on points with them but with a 4 goal advantage.

Aberdeen lying down would have lost us the league that night.

Right move. There'll be other opportunities down south, Sunderland is a poisoned chalice.

Plus, nice boost of our league. And didn't want to see Aberdeen decimated as it looked that they might be.
yep , would have been on a hiding to nothing , and they cant even tell you who will own the club at christmas , avoid like the plague

Hearts fans do, they've never accepted that they bottled it, was easier to blame St Liedown.

I remember Hibs & Mowbray coming in for stick from some Celtic fans after happily letting the Huns play out to a 1-0 win in 2005 on Black Sunday, a narrow defeat gave Hibs 3rd & the only Uefa Cup place.

I've heard of teams trying harder against some than others. But deliberately playing badly against others? I can't see it.
