Yeah I'm really surprised by this. Shows a complete lack of ambition by Sunderland, can see them relegated again next season.

Oh well :chuffed:

They should try for Alex Neil. Won't get him but it costs nothing to ask.

This will be the job that steals Brendan away from us. Who could resist the call of the north?

The market for the next Sheep manager could be interesting. The move for McInnes and the large number of player departures has been painted as bad news for them.

But with the investment news they've announced today, the money they'll pick up for McInnes and Hayes, and a fairly decent spread of reachable SPFL managers or out of work Scottish managers available to pick from they could actually end up better off if they get it right. It's not beyond the wit of a decent manager to replace Jack, McGinn, Taylor, Hayes etc with better players, even on their budget.

No idea what their budget for a new manager would be, but guessing about £300,000 a year. Stubbs seems an obvious contender. Tommy Wright too. Alex Neil is probably out of reach, but I wonder if he's out of reach in a sort of lets-at-least-ask-him-the-question sorta style.

Could go from the ambitious (Neil, Stubbs) to the boring (Archibald, Wright), to the ridiculous (Hartley, Pressley) to the faded grandeur of never getting another job in England in a million years so why not (McLeish, Coyle) to the what have you been smoking (Lambert, Moyes).

They should be looking at Jack Ross at St Mirren.
