Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Yeah what is all that about.?
Orangemen obsessed about bygone days of yore
Advocaat's had the job twice already - this would be his 3rd crack at it.

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf are reporting that Dick Advocaat and Ruud Gullit are lined up to form a management team to take charge of the Netherlands national team.

Former Rangers and Sunderland boss Advocaat, 69, has previously been the Dutch manager and would take over in June when his current contract at Turkish side Fenerbahce ended.

He would be assisted by former Chelsea and Newcastle boss Gullit, 54.
Im sure Ruud shafted wee Dick by walking out on the Dutch squad on the eve of a tourney.

In 1993, Gullit and Netherlands manager Dick Advocaat began what was to be a long-running dispute which ultimately ended Gullit's international career. Advocaat's decision to play Gullit on the right side of midfield in a game against England at Wembley, rather than his usual central position, upset Gullit and this was exacerbated by his substitution for Marc Overmars.[15] Gullit refused to play for the national team following this but later changed his mind and agreed to return, facing Scotland in May 1994. Shortly before the 1994 World Cup, Gullit walked out of the pre-tournament training camp and would never play international football again. In December 2013, while appearing on Dutch television program Studio Voetbal, Gullit and Advocaat stated they were both at fault in the matter and regretted it.

Must have kissed and made up.

Been told athat Darren Young of Albion Rovers was sacked yesterday by letter.
Also all the management team.

They are facing huge budget cuts and the playing budget will be slashed by 40% next season so whoever takes over it will be an uphill struggle to keep them in the league they're in.

Holland have a terrible habit of reappointing old managers.

They've had Rinus Michels do the job on four separate occasions, Van Gaal do it twice, Hiddink also doing it twice, and now attempting to get Advocaat in for the second time.

They must have a constant yearning for days gone by.
Van Gaal failed first time round, 2nd time round lost a World cup semi final on penalties.

Advocate 2nd time lost the Euro 2004 semi final.

Michels 1st time lost a World Cup final, 3rd time he won the Euros in 88.

Bar Hiddink all of them did better 2nd time round, it's hardly a bad habit.

"Boyd, a hugely likeable man, wasn’t keen to get into numbers but a tie sich as this one can make £100,000. The game has been moved to Airdrie and every one of the 10,000-plus tickets have been sold. It is a life saver.

“Financially, it’s huge,” said Boyd as chat in the boardroom. “As chairman of the club, and without getting into all the details, I can say this will move us from a battle for survival this season to stability for the next year or so. It’s that big."

From the Evening Times 17 January 2017.

Maybe they owed money elsewhere? Ticketus?

Was a strange sort of irony that the day we humped the huns 5-1 at their own midden was also the day Davie Moyes got relegated with Sunderland.

Here's what you could have had.

The majority of us on here would have chosen Moyes over Brendan given the chance at the time.

The year Liverpool almost won the title under Rodgers, they beat Moyes's Man Utd 3-0 at Old Trafford and had three stonewall penalties turned down in the process. They absolutely annihilated them in their own stadium. Yet to this day there are a lot of fans down south who see Moyes as a solid, reliable manager and Rodgers as a Kevin Keegan-type idealist. I think a lot of posters on here probably felt that way too a year ago.

I sometimes think David Moyes has been quite unlucky. He couldn't turn down the Man Utd job. Although they were champions, it wasnt a great squad. I dont think he got long enough before he got the bullet. The Real Sociedad move was a strange decision. And Sunderland are Sunderland. They have finished 17th, 14th, 16th 17th in the last 4 seasons. They've been circling the drain for years. He took over in late July too.

As far as I remember, GMB Hartley was featured in an ad for yellow pages back in the 80's. Its an old gentleman searching the listings and eventually finding the book he has been looking for by GMB Hartley, who turns out to be himself. I suspect other interpretations have been added on later. Could be wrong. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2TilNclT8k

One of my mates is a Sunderland fan and his biggest criticism of Moyes is his negativity. The season had barely started when Moyes declared they were in a relegation fight and was moaning about the difficulty in recruiting players who were better than they already had. It was such a contrast from the positivity of Sam Allardyce last season.

He took the Champions from 1st to 7th.
They won nothing.
He was lucky he got as long as he did.

He took over a Sociedad side that had finished in the European places the previous season, and when he got punted claimed their board had unrealistic ambitions.
They're back in the European spots this season

He spent £35 million at Sunderland, having taken over a side that ended last season in rich form.

He's a effing haddy.

His net spend was 13m at Sunderland. 13th most in the league right enough. But I'd say a terrible team escaping relegation narrowly for 3 of the previous 4 seasons needed more than 13m invested in it. That doesnt get you far in that league when you take over a month before the window closes.

In the winter transfer window his net spend was -8m. Van Anholt wanted to leave for a relagation rival. Sunderland's debt is over 100m.

Van Gaal hardly improved Man Utd and iirc he spent over 250m.
