Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
I think the manager of the year should be the one who has most exceeded any reasonable expectations of their role. There are a few candidates for that in the top league - Rodgers, Lennon, and Clarke - and I’ve no problem with any of them winning it. Rodgers’ “problem” is that expectations in him were influenced by last season, which was a huge outlier.
"I think the manager of the year should be the one who has most exceeded any reasonable expectations of their role"

An interesting concept but how exactly could Brendan win Manager of the Year under those circumstances? Given our finances he is expected to win the league plus cups. What would constitute "exceeded reasonable expectations"? Win every game? Never concede a goal? A manager of a team expected to finish 7th or 8th but finishes 4th or 5th will have exceeded expectations. He has scope to do so as there are several league places available for him to reach. Brendan does not have that. There is nothing above finishing first place.
It’s fairly straightforward. Last year he hugely exceeded expectations, this season he hasn’t. All subjective of course, but unless you automatically give it to the guy who wins the league then any criteria is going to be subjective.

you dont need to see many of those players in a first team game to learn about them if you see them every day

a good few of them brendan has seen enough of likely wont again whilst griffiths and armstrong werent fit enough to start

aitchison is miles away from the first team, he rarely even trains with the first team squad when other youngsters regularly do. dont see anyone walking out of wednesdays game saying they would like hendry to start again either

theres good reasons we havent seen many of those that people claim should be given a run and its the same under every manager. fans like to cling onto the hope that we have better not getting a game but its rarely if ever true despite the moans about manager having their favourites

What about a possible second treble in a row?

The award is only for this season, and we haven’t won the treble.

As I said, it’s entirely subjective. Rodgers, Lenny, and Clarke have all exceeded expectations this season. I just happen to think that Clarke has exceeded them more than the other two. No big deal.

I know, that's why I said possible.

If we do it, we will have exceeded expectations, because I'm not sure many people would have bet on us winning a treble for the second time in a row.

Regardless, he's done more than just win the league.

Agree that Steve Clarke has also had a good season. Then again, he's a good manager with a lot of experience, so you would have expected him to bang them into shape pretty quickly.

Clarke hasn't had a great 'season' though, he only took over in October.

He's done a great job in the seven months he's been there, but people have gone over the top about it a little bit.

The Cardigan got MOTY five times in the tainted 90s; I don't recall any effer finding excuses to give the award to anyone else.

The first manager in the history of Scottish Football to win back to back Trebles, and only the third man in the history of European Football to do it.
That picture on the Legends banners is now deserved. Thanks Brendan.

Graham Spiers on Twitter..

Brendan Rodgers on when he might be lured back to England: “I’ve got 3 years’ contract left at Celtic. Three plus seven equals 10. It’s a big thing for the supporters. I have a responsibility to 60,000 passionate fans.”
