As, Lubo once said (or was it Dr Jo?)..."back home, we have a saying: everyone is a general after the war...."

Well done Brendan. Your team overcame two utterly howling defensive calamities (1st goal and red card) to give, for me, the best of all our Sevco victories.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Yesterday was one game of many imo.

McGregor did as well as could be expected but defensively we really struggled with him in that position. Ajer at RB didn’t work either and we were heavily exposed in the wide areas. Ajer was too far forward and was regularly caught out with balls over the top.

I think if he’d played Edouard.behind Dembele v Zenit - in both games, we might still be in Europe.

Don’t want to turn this into a rant. I’m as happy with Brendan as others, just feel he needs to start picking the right personnel to begin with, which he doesn’t often seem to do.
Sure, but in terms of yesterday's lineup, I am just trying to understand what was wrong with his choices other than "anyone but effing Boyata," a sentiment that I shared by halftime as I said.

Not sure who we should have started instead of McGregor on that side. I was happy to see Roberts on the bench but it was probably too soon for him to jump back into this game (and I think he prefers Forrest's position anyway). I think Musonda is a bit lightweight for all his skill and would have been stomped early and often with absolutely no protection from Collum & Co. Not sure who the other candidates were. I absolutely would not have started with Sinclair there on current form.

As for Ajer, I thought we were playing a back three, and maybe Ajer was exposed on that side of it, but I would not have started Lustig or any of the other RB candidates at the expense of any of the midfield players who started. Whatever else went on we did have the better of it in midfield by playing five there.

And if he started Edouard behind Dembele instead of Rogic ... well, who knows, we might have seen him score more than one but we certainly wouldn't have that Rogic hit to treasure.

As for going out to Zenit, that's a whole other pile of fail that I don't feel like unpacking on a day like this.
He should have had Compper on the bench. If he did, Boyata would have been at or even HT. He had to stick with Boyata as he only had Hendry on the bench and I don’t think Brendan had any intention of putting him in until Jozo went off. That’s poor planning when you’re gambling on the fitness of your CB.

Could have played Sinclair or Edouard on the left. They would have given more problems defensively.

He managed the game brilliantly in the second half. No complaints there.

There’s been other games this season, particularly big games, that Ntcham was left out or has been hooked in games, he shouldn’t have. He didn’t start him in the 0-0 game and if he had, we’d probably have won the game, such was the impact he had when he came on. It’s been similar in Europe this season.

I presume it’s down to Brendan managing Ntcham’s condition given his age.

Anyway, now is not the time to start highlighting faults

Did you all have a good day yesterday? More to the point, did Flawless remember the Buckie? :ph43r:

Compper wasn’t on the bench because of fitness. Would have been ludicrous if the back up for our unfit centre back was another one

No transfer thread so putting this here. We want Yeovil right back Tom James on a freebie in the summer apparently.
That should dispel any fears some may have that we’re not going to invest heavily on defensive upgrades...
Didn’t take you long to get back to your favourite pastime of complaining about transfers. It’s nice to have a day off

Not many managers are going to win at Pittodrie and Ibrox with ten men. And not even seeing games out. Scoring with ten men.

He looked capable enough in the Morton game albeit against weaker opposition. Maybe not got 90m in him but his experience would have helped.

Might have got 45 mins out him. Unless, he’s picked up another injury?

Doesn’t matter, we won :)

He was due to be in the studio with Carragher but because he's been suspended they've changed their schedule and are now live from Stoke instead.

As soon as I noticed Edouard was coming on I sent a message to my mates saying "Eddie's scoring here"
And to think Dembele's running about claiming the assist.
