Arsenal will review Arsene Wenger's position this summer — with the prospect of ending the Frenchman's 22-year reign now emerging as a genuine option. The Gunners have already started compiling a list of potential candidates to replace Wenger if time is called on his tenure at the end of the season. Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim, Germany manager Joachim Low, Celtic head coach Brendan Rodgers and Manchester City coach Mikel Arteta are among the early contenders. Sources insist Wenger, whose position is under more scrutiny following Sunday's feeble Carabao Cup final defeat by Manchester City, will fight to see out the final 12 months of his contract at the very least. But Sportsmail understands there is growing support among Arsenal's power-brokers for Wenger to leave north London at the end of this season. The end-of-season review will be key as to whether Wenger is given the chance to stay for another campaign. This leaves him facing serious questions about what has so far been a below-par season. Much will depend on whether Wenger can lead the club back into the Champions League, although achieving that feat will not be the only factor. A route back into Europe's elite looks unlikely through the Premier League as the Gunners are currently 10 points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham. So Arsenal's most likely way back is by winning the Europa League, although they face a daunting, two-legged clash against AC Milan in the next round. Qualifying for the Champions League next season would provide Wenger with a bargaining tool in his attempts to stay. At the moment, however, he is facing the virtually impossible task of arguing that the team has improved after he was awarded a two-year extension last summer — particularly after they broke their transfer record twice in the space of seven months. The club's hierarchy has changed significantly this season with chief executive Ivan Gazidis appointing head of recruitment Sven Mislintat, head of football relations Raul Sanllehi and contract negotiatior Huss Fahmy. These new faces have reduced Wenger's control at the club, particularly with regard to recruitment. And they will have an influence during the summer review and the appointment of Wenger's eventual successor. However, majority shareholder Stan Kroenke will still have the final say on whether Wenger leaves. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/Wenger-faces-axe

Watching that tactics video shows just how important Tierney is to our play. Also shows just how much difference a right back similar to Tierney - in that he can get forward and track back for a full 90 - would potentially make to our play. Forrest has been excellent this season, can you imagine how much more effective he would be with a right-sided Tierney behind him?
Don't agree that teams have necessarily sussed us out, we just aren't playing with enough urgency. Being patient in possession is all well and good but when you go forward it needs to be done at pace or else the other team has time to drop off and get organised. Having Rogic, Roberts and Armstrong back for the run in should help in this respect.
Seems easy enough, all we need is one of the best right backs in the game to match our left back. Over to you Brendan.
We are set up to be dominant down that side, with the right back tucking in to help the centre backs. We wouldn’t have two marauding full backs with wingers in front. We would only have that on the other side if Tierney falls back and tucks in the way Lustig currently does when KT is bombing down the left.

Patrick Roberts is expected to play his first game of the year tomorrow night against Dundee while Marvin Compper could also make his debut for the Parkhead side. Roberts came through a development game unscathed last Friday night while Compper has shaken off a calf injury in each leg since his arrival at the club in January. However, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Kristoffer Ajer is a doubt for tomorrow night’s game against Neil McCann's side at Celtic Park. Ajer was left with a heavily bandaged head after clashing with Jozo Simunovic in the 2-0 win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Sunday afternoon. Ajer managed to see the game out but with a swollen eye may not make it in time for tomorrow's clash. Mikael Lustig is suspended for the game but there is an alleviation in the injury issues with Tom Rogic getting a few games under his belt with Compper and Roberts set to follow. “Kris has suffered from the head knock and we’ll need to see how he is in the next 24 hours,” said the Celtic manager. “He ended up with his head all bandaged up like Rab C. Nesbitt! The problem is above his eye. He obviously needed stitched up on the pitch but after the game his eye fully closed. “It was probably hard for Bobby Madden to see the clash at the time and if he had he would have stopped the game. “Patrick will be back available for Dundee. Marvin Compper as well. Patrick played in the development game last week and has been training for a few weeks. “It’s great to have him back. You see his quality and his creativity, he’s fantastic to have back. “We need to be careful and manage him, without holding the player back. He’s worked very hard in the last few weeks. “It’s a bit like we seen with Tom Rogic. When you are out for a while you need eased back in with minutes here and there. It will need to be the same with Pat. “Marvin had the initial knock on his calf in Dubai then he was getting back fit and he felt the tightness on the other side. “He’s been training for a little while now so we will see.” Rodgers also explained that while he was consulted by Scott Brown prior to the decision to step down from international football, the final call came from the player himself. “We spoke briefly about it," said Rodgers. "It’s been several months since he last played for Scotland but this choice was always going to be down to Scott and now we can move forward. “I’ve always got an opinion on it but ultimately it had to be down to him. “He spoke to Alex and I spoke to Alex as well, so they are in agreement and at least now they can move forward together and Scott can celebrate a great history of playing for Scotland." http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/Roberts_and_Marvin

The four men who have caught the eye of the Arsenal regime are reportedly: Leonardo Jardim, because Wenger says all the greatest managers in football history have won the French league with Monaco; Jogi Löw, because Mesut Özil says he’s very understanding; Brendan Rodgers, because it took Bayern Munich two matches to beat the Queen’s Celtic by a combined score of 5-1; and Mikel Arteta, because a three-man shortlist might look lazy.

I expect Wenger will pick his own successor. If he gets to choose his successor thenWenger will decide that Wenger should be succeeded by Wenger. 👍

Has this ever actually worked out anywhere? Shankly told Liverpool to appoint Bob Paisley as his successor - Worked out not too shabbily.
Apparently the Cardigan told Kenwright to appoint Moyes when Kenright was going for Megson.
Moyes going to Man Utd on the back of Ferguson's recommendation - Whoever followed Sir Furious firstly was on a hiding to nothing and so it proved.

It's from The Fiver in the Guardian.
It's what they call us.
It can be quite funny.
(The comments on the other candidates are not entirely serious.)
