Its eff all to do with what happened last year or the start to this season. It's the way the performances have regressed since before the turn of the year. As stated earlier, I too am not confident of beating anyone at the moment. Hopefully get a good result tomorrow (even a draw with good performance?) some players coming back too and we can get back to winning ways.
Forward to victory!
Oh aye, the Huns won't lose today.

Team goes off boil after 70 brilliant games shocker.

Celtic papped out by team ranked 30 places above them shocker

Celtic only 9 points clear in league shocker

Nobody is complaining about going out of europe.

Nobody is complaining about being 9 points ahead.

People are rightly concerned about the level of performances this season considering we are running with our highest ever wage bill and paying a management team an absolute fortune as well.

So much so that the supporters are going to get effed with another season ticket increase next year.

Um, I'm kind of complaining about being only 9 ahead. We've dropped what 20 points already this season? There's still 11 games left.

We should be completely dominating this league with the money we have and the superior players we have. This season in the league not only has been gutrot to watch but is far closer than we hoped.

9 points ahead despite playing probably 33% more games than anyone else whilst also providing the majority of the national side. Players were under constant pressure to break unbeaten run which they did and won the treble. With little summer respite we have again kept on course for a historic treble while coping with the worst injury crisis I can recall. Yet some fans want even more a bigger lead which would then doubtless see them calling for some competition as its boring to see us win so easily. Bring on the challenges, I know we can and will respond, getting even stronger with players, management and support working as one.

Ach maybe you're right. We have to enjoy what we have though. I'd like my partner to have breasts like Kelly Brook, but she doesnt. Doesnt stop me getting the oven gloves on and shouting 'mama' at the sight of them. I'm going to stop typing now.

I don't have a ST so it is of minor importance to me but surely being competitive domestically is a given. We are not competitive in Europe.

It's only going to get harder, says Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers
Neil Cameron

BRENDAN RODGERS last night warned Celtic supporters that progress in Europe will become even more difficult because the financial gulf between his team and the continent's elite is getting bigger.

The 3-0 defeat by Zenit St Petersburg, which ended Celtic’s Europa League campaign, evoked perhaps the first real criticism of Rodgers since he joined the club in May 2016 given the meek way his side surrendered in Russia on Thursday night.

However, Rodgers made the point that while he remains hugely ambitious about what his Celtic can achieve, the reality is that forces outwith anyone’s control count against even Scotland’s richest club competing with those such as Zenit, whose resources dwarf that of the SPFL Premiership champions.

When asked if it would become harder to come against ever increasing budgets, the Celtic manager said: “It will do. I think we have to keep fighting. That is important for us. We’ve had a lot of great memories this season, both in Europe in the Champions League and in the league but that’s because we have had great opportunities and in the main we take those opportunities.

“On Thursday night, I felt it was an opportunity on the back of how well we played last week. But we have to keep creating the opportunities. We go away, we look at games, we ask how we can improve, and each year it gets more difficult.

“Next year’s qualification for a Scottish team to get to the Champions League becomes even more difficult. But that’s the level we are at, so we just have to keep working.”

Celtic do seem to have hit a glass ceiling in terms of European improvement and as Rodgers said, it is not going to be easier for them next season.

The club are cash rich and one way to improve is to spend big in the summer; however, that is an unlikely path for them to go down after years of frugality.

And when asked how far away he is from making Celtic a team which can offer a better challenge in either the Champions League or Europa League, Rodgers said: “Listen, it’s very hard to say. It gets tougher each year. I suppose it’s managing expectancy, really.

“If any Scottish team qualifies for the Champions League, that’s a big achievement. Then you are going to then go in and you look at Bayern Munich winning 5-0 against Besiktas.

“And we’re normally in with two teams at least of real, real quality. So, I think Champions League qualification is a big achievement for a Scottish team. If you can then either get into European football after that, in the Champions League ideally or into the Europa League, you would hope you could make the steps.

“If you look at these games against Zenit, we were clearly much better than them last week but our consistency wasn’t so good, so you end up going out.

“Year on year you have to try to improve and we hope that if we can be in European football we can do that. But there is always going to be the balance, we are always going to have young players, that’s where we’re at really. But it’s great to see them develop and flourish. We hope next year in Europe we can take more steps forward.”

Wish people would stop talking about the “historic double treble” as though it’s a mere formality. Folk did a similar thing during Deila’s first season when, in a desperate rush to defend him from justified criticism, he was being spoken about as though the treble was in the bag that year.

BR needs to show his mettle on Sunday by sending a team out that puts in a performance and gets an important win that sends out a message. Same as last October at Pittodrie would be ideal, but any kind of win will do.

The money side of the argument is a slightly funny one for me.
He said it was about bravery & attitude, that we went from dominating them to powderpuff.
Money alone cannot answer that.

He has to start taking more responsibility for our progression, or lack of it.
I don't think we'll get much better than Brendan, cos when he's good he's very good - but he has a fair few blindspots that he needs to acknowledge.

We should be completely dominating this league with the money we have and the superior players we have. This season in the league not only has been gutrot to watch but is far closer than we hoped.

I'm feeling uneasy about this too.

I'm not saying the huns are going to catch us next season, but I will forever be reminded of the gub on the swamp crowing about "spikey golf shoes" when Martin O'Neill took over. They genuinely believed that they were going to go stratospheric and leave us behind.

We should guard against this sort of hubris. We all know with our resources we should be far more ahead than 9 points but that is manifestly not the case.

We will win the league this year. Possibly the Scottish Cup, but make no mistake. We need some big big changes this summer.

One of Alex Ferguson's great traits was his ability to spot the early signs of decline in a player and move him on before it became a liability to the team. Ruthless, yes. Quite cruel when he moved on some players who had served him well for years, but that was why he's one of the best two managers this country has ever seen.

Of course Lustig is a case in point. Once one of my favourite player, he needs moved on or down because he's too much of a risk now. My feeling is Ralston is not the solution at right back, so we need another.

So on top of a first choice right back, we need...

First choice keeper
First choice centre back (at east one)
Cover at left back, because we are working KT like a carthorse
Centre mid with guile, craft and intelligence
One eye on a replacement for Broonie, because in 2 years he will be entering his period of decline
Probably a winger
Probably a striker

That is a huge number of positions to look at and it won't happen in one window, but we need character because we are badly lacking it. When the chips are down, the heads go down. Sutton is right about this team chucking it on Thursday night. A Martin O'Neill team would not have done that in Europe. O'Neill signed players with swagger, not just skill.

I still believe in Rodgers, but next season is going to ask a lot of questions. Not just of him, but of how much our board are committed to the succession planning the we need. Namely with money.
