Defensively, we lacked aggression, in particular in the first half. We didn’t close the space quickly enough. You talk about defending forward and we didn’t do that well enough, and we conceded poor goals from that."

BR: "For the second goal, we didn’t engage quick enough from the throw-in. We got too deep and we have to press the guy who is shooting."
Takes bravery to play the way Rodgers wants us to play.

We don't have a team of brave players.

These results aren't going to go away so long as Rodgers insists on this style with a similar make up of squad.
You're right but it also takes players with the ability to play that way. Our players don't have this ability.
I was saying same to my mates earlier . Reckon big part of the problem is that Brendan tells his players that they are good enough to match these players for ability. They go out full of confidence and when they realise they can’t match them
They just retreat into themselves. Got to find some other way to compete

Hell of a rebuilding job coming up this summer.

Got to admit I have my worries about his (and his staff's) ability to spot a player based on what we've seen so far
You should be helping with your credentials.

Totally agree, this has been the case since day one.
The solution is obvious too, but it won't happen anytime soon.

I think it’s a bit of a double edged sword.

Our transfer policy is about finding and developing raw talent in order to attract better players and sell them on.

Our squad is talented but it’s stocked with young players with little experience at this level, with a manager who expects them to play a system that is very difficult for inexperienced players to execute well.

Trying to play a possession based game away from home is too much of an ask for this side.
Yet we had more possession than ZSP tonight.

As per usual it was in areas that didn’t hurt them.

I have no issue in the unpolished gems to sell on policy. Unfortunately, we are now signing guys like a Hendry who I can’t see anyone buying soon.

Someone can dig this out in three years if I’m wrong. I don’t expect to be.
Yeah, we’re brilliant at shooting ourselves in the foot in our own half.

Maybe he wouldn’t sign two centre halves, one who was ineligible (as well as being unfit), and another who wasn’t good enough to start, for the EL.

His big signing didn’t start either.

That is very concerning.

Having two thirds of the ball but creating nothing and having your flanks wide open every time the other team attacks is fundamentally dysfunctional.

Teams can now sit off us and let our players, play their way into trouble.

I don’t care how good McGregor was last week, playing him tonight was feckin idiotic.

Rodgers said there is a lot of learning to be done from the games we have played in Europe. Just not by him apparently.

He needs to address the centre of defence or it will be his undoing. An attacking style of play is great, it doesn't mean you pretend defending isn't part of the game. Something drastically wrong with out defensive set up. Should someone be brought in to help John Kennedy?

This pass across the back 4, then to the wide player, then backwards and repeat

Does Rodgers think thats good football? Just because the stats keep our possession nice?

He says that after every embarrassing performance in Europe!

Anyone expecting us to rebuild anything in the summer is having a laugh. When do we ever rebuild in the summer? We'll make do and mend and carry on as before, ad infinitum.

Summers massive now if he wants to get us back to last year's level and start to show a bit more in Europe.

New keeper, Right Back, centre half and probably a new forward if Moussa leaves. That's just for starters.

 Didn't even post this before it was trashed

I don't think zenit sat off us, they pressured the areas between defence and midfield very well and we just weren't sharp enough with the ball. We had a fair amount of possession but we never particularly used it well.

I love the guy but he shouldn't be immune from criticism because of his first season.

piss poor record in europe. yes the teams have bigger budgets but that isnt an excuse, we have beaten some huge teams over the years and even when we got beat we didnt make it easy, o'neill, strachan and lennon managed to make an impact in europe beating teams with huge budgets and world class players.

piss poor signing record, far too many projects and a serious lack of experience and quality, failure to sign a decent keeper and failure to fix our defence, every window the signings are very late and mostly uninspiring, its either a piss poor budget he has, bad planning or pigheadedness thinking he can turn what he has into gold...it isnt working.

playing around with the squad too much and sticking with certain players even when they are playing poorly.

defence coaches not improving the defence, far too many injuries from training methods and a few players obviously not wanting to be here (dembele/jozo) but still in the squad, he should be sorting that stuff out.

he is getting paid a serious wage and needs to do better, something has gone wrong this season and considering its more or less the same squad as last season its worrying, yes we are ahead in the league but not by much and the way we have been playing we will drop more points, considering the gulf in finances and quality its pretty shocking that sevco are so close to us, failure to build on success is the celtic way.

Look. I don't disagree with the analysis; I'm just 99.9% certain of the outcome

We don't rebuild, we just make enough of the right noises to placate the fans and then we make a few mostly underwhelming moves and slip out a "not expecting any more business this window" via the usual channels.

Rinse, repeat.

Edit: Not to forget the obligatory 'people just don't know how difficult it is to recruit the level of player we need in Scottish football.' article from CQN.

Lenny’s first proper season was the last time we did it. And it worked.

You are probably gonna be proved right bud but we are crying out for better players.

BR is an intelligent guy. He knows this isn't good enough but will he make the demands in the summer?

My thoughts are that our performance levels have gone backwards on last season as we haven’t addressed the weaknesses the team has. The team out performed itself last year and the strengths hid the weaknesses. Now the levels have dropped off they have been exposed. Rodgers and his team haven’t addressed them and other managers have exploited them.
