Last season was a once in a lifetime year. Absolutely superb. This season we've suffered from a terrible injury list which has been very disruptive. Also it's fair to say that other teams have discovered a way to nullify our attack with a combination of high pressing and unpunished fouling. The average age of the team against Zenit was very young (can't be arsed working it out) and we were superb - that was last week. Having said that, some of the performances have been dire, can't argue with that at all, but there have been mitigating circumstances.
We have a bloated squad, mainly of midfield players, with a wage bill probably about 20 times the size of the likes of Kilmarnock and St Johnstone. We kept getting told we have the best squad in the league, yet when we play the fringe players we invariably struggle. Despite having a huge squad we have no cover for Tierney or Brown therefore we run them into the ground. Our training is causing us more injuries than matches, where is Compper? and when we get scudded by PSG a huge amount of people shrug their shoulders and say ah well it happens, look at the wage difference... People can't have it both ways. Last year was brilliant but we have not kicked on. Majority of our players have regressed probably because they can't be rested as our back up players, many signed by Rodgers, aren't good enough. I slated Strachan and Deila for the lack of entertaining football. I'm not going to be hypocritical on Rodgers. He gets over £2m per annum and last year looked like a tactical god with nearly every sub having a positive impact on the game. He's not doing that this season - like for like subs yesterday was a true wtf moment. We wasted the summer transfer window in our desperation to buy Roberts and failed to address other positions in which we were sorely lacking. Hence why we ship a huge amount of goals in European ties (particularly away ). No harm to Jack Hendry, but he isn't going to solve that issue any time soon. I am not going to disagree with that. We have not kicked on like we should have.
Still we could be looking at another treble and progression in Europe.

I agree about not being hypocritical as well, fair comment. Above still applies though.

I'm not being passive toward the league, obviously I want us to win it first and foremost. All i'm saying is that I'd prefer to be in Europe and have a shot at the treble than not in Europe and have a shot at the treble. I'm also taking yesterday's result in isolation due to the changes we made in preparation for Europe - and i'm happy for us to do that if it's an option. As for the rest of our poor results, I do get that the league performances have been rotten pretty much all year but we've had as bad a run of injuries as I can ever remember. However, BR also needs to address how other teams are parking the bus against us. All that being said, we're on course for a treble and an extended EL run...which makes it difficult to be overly critical of the time. Have they been entertaining? No, but they have been getting results when it counts. That clear it up for everyone? Naw, me neither
so you're ' taking yesterday's result in isolation' when it's another game with the same issues, loads of possession and the opposition keeper not needing to wipe his gloves? there's a pattern to us at home especially but not exclusively, mainly due to floofing around with the ball and allowing a collection of inferior players to get organised. Yes, as I said, yesterday was a team mainly comprising of fringe / new players so it's unfair to judge it against a team of regular first team players.
I agree with what you're saying btw, there is a problem with us this year. Deciding that a quicker counter attack is more important than retaining possession would be a good start in fixing some of our issues.

Hibs are better than they have been in years. Kilmarnock have improved under Clarke New Huns have their most settled side since the Old Huns died. Aberdeen and Hearts have stalled a wee bit, but there are more teams capable of giving us a closer game I'll give you Hibs and Kilmarnock. That's 2 out of 11. That doesn't make for good reading.
The huns are pretty much doing what they've done since they joined the top table.
The reason teams are capable of giving us a game now is that we're coasting. Compare the intensity shown in our pressing last season to this. It's night and day. Zenit was much closer to last season's effort, so they've shown that it's still possible for them to turn up.

The tactical genius thing grates at me a little.
I feel at times, if he had making the right choices to begin with, he wouldn't be needing to constantly adapt the formation during games to get the desired result.
Agree with the pointless like for like.

Zenit was much closer to last season's effort, so they've shown that it's still possible for them to turn up. If Hibs and Killie have improved and the Huns are now second then obviously they are a stronger team than last year. Overall the league does seem to be improving a wee bit and that is a good thing, even if it does mean less points difference at the end of the year between us and the rest.
I prefer not to imagine a random number of years/light years being between Celtic and anyone else in the league. But we have seen in our own history how quick things can turn around. The best squad in the league doesn’t always get the results they need if it can’t play the players it wants.
If we are coasting there is only so long that can last before competition or the simple drive of the opposition begins to match up.

I honestly wonder how much of a difference the much anticipated new pitch is going to make. Here's hoping a massive one, because at home we have struggled in games we should be winning comfortably. I know we had bad performances and horrendous results at Hearts and Kilmarnock too, but we should be dominating teams at home.

It won't make a blind bit of difference if we have players who choose if and when they turn up.
Sinclair's* stats lie, he drifts in and out of games and has been off form for months now. If we had addressed his back up in the Summer(and it should never have been Hayes) then he wouldn't be in the team, nearly every week.
I genuinely can't wait until this seasons over, too many players seem to be going through the motions just now. Thursday night proved, that they can play, when they want to turn it on.
We need to sort out, who wants to be here and address the problem positions, which have been shown up this season. The money is there, no excuse not to spend it.
* I just used him as 1 example, there are many throughout the team, who are well below were they should be.

We do 'dominate' teams. we just pass around an area around the 1/2 way line while we're doing it.

Maybe last season was as good as it’s going to get for a lot of the players . If they were capable of maintaining that level of performance season after season they prob wouldn’t be with us . The only player who looks better this season than last is Forrest who many myself included had written off before Rodgers arrived .

wee bit concerned that our next game is at pittodrie a few days after we come back from a long trip to russia
i know rodgers record against aberdeen is 100 per cent but i'd have preferred that extra wee bit of protection that a win over st johnstone would have given us
if we're not going to win the europa league - and we're not - i'd rather get knocked out now so that he can stop all this floofing about with the team, play our best 11 and get the league - and cup - wrapped up by playing a few months of decent football

Given Rodgers said he'd targeted a double digit lead by Christmas I think it's safe to say he himself believes we are not performing as we should be.

Bizarre to want knocked out, to win domestically to play in Europe again.
