No issues with starting line up but baffled that he went like for like with substitutions. Made more sense to with 2 strikers and put pressure on them as game word on.

Manager being to clever today well thought he was being clever but backfired, that was poor today as a lot of games this season thank god our challengers have been worse or we would be in the shampoo.

I really don't like the notion that today will be validated if we progress on Thursday. We should be able to beat St Johnstone and still do the business on Thursday. Be that with the strongest team or the fringe players like today. No matter what happens on Thursday today was garbage.

The issue with the changes he's made is that the injury situation means that third-choice players are being rotated into the starting XI. It's one thing to rotate in guys who get a start every few games but it's another to throw together an assortment of youngsters, players who barely feature and players returning from injury.

IMO, the constant rotation of the team seems to have done more harm than good this season. Maybe a run into the Europa League will change that but we've dropped an awful lot of points this season.

I expected changes, but not that many, but what did my box in today were his like for like subs. They were camped in their own half. Take Miller off and play Dembele with Edouard. The two of them were superb together against Hearts. But no, 1 up front and then a left back for a left back. Very strange.
Yes. 100%.

I can't see any reason for the wholesale changes. Wouldn't it be better to play a team as close to Thursday's as possible to bring some continuity and confidence?
There are obvious reasons for and against the changes. Can’t really say whether it’s worked until Thursday night, as that’s obviously the match that caused the changes.
That's really about it. BR knew that even if we lost today we'd still be 8 points clear (and barring utter calamity, will still win the league).

This Thursday coming. The biggest thing on the horizon.

If our challengers were better we wouldn't be playing weakened teams.

I laugh when Huns said if we won our home games against the dross they'd be joint top, if they were that close to us in the first place we wouldn't regularly make 7 changes to our team which leads to us dropping points.

Was a point in last couple a minutes, there was a ball played over the top for dembele. Saints defender won a weak header at the edge of his box and it bounced a couple of yards outside it. Only tic player anywhere near it was musonda, who was still a good 10-15 yards behind play with saints plsyers everywhere. We weren't even really pushing for winner. Could still be playing the now without a goal.

Obviously, stones and glass houses comes to mind here  but.. I thought Rodgers’ comments on St Johnstone were quite unnecessary today. He was on the defensive over the team selection and I thought he came across a bit poorly.

A bit
Yeah, it was very unlike him. I was surprised that he went down that line; it was a fairly innocuous question.

You’re not wrong. Obviously I didn’t expect him to slag his own players but to defend playing a weak team cause StJ haven’t been at the races but were today is poor.

St Johnstone played the exact same way they have against us on the last few visits to celtic park. there’s been a complete lack of tactical flexibility in domestic games this season which is surprising as Thursday showed he can change it when he puts some thought into it. We’ve become predictable domestically which is why we have scored considerably less goals and dropped far too many points this season.

He needs a reality check.

Domestically, he's been out thought by average players and managers.

I couldn't care less with the amount of changes made if it ends up with us coming away from Thursday with a last 16 place. BR played an absolute blinder last week and then faced the most St Johnstone team of any St Johnstone team I've seen for many a year. They were always going to sit as deep as possible and kick anything hooped so priority number one was to get through that match without any injuries and without knackering any of the players who'll be starting in Russia. That was far and away the most important thing for me.

Ahhh come on lads

We’d no divine right to win any game of football.

We’ve not played as good as last season that’s agreed. Last season by its nature cannot be used as a benchmark. It took a century to achieve for a reason.

We haven’t found a consistency this season but we are still 9 ahead in the league and on course for an unprecedented back to back treble.

We’ve also got a huge match on Thursday as we are still playing on 3 fronts while already having a trophy secured.

I’ve seen some of the best football in my celtic life under Burns and we never got near a title.

Pretty football doesn’t always serve you well. This season hasn’t been that pretty but it’s serving us well.

Put it this way, after a season and a half, we’ve an unbeaten domestic treble in the bag. We’ve now went 4/4 for domestic trophies after the league cup this season. We are on course for making history with another treble and we’ve just came off the back of a fantastic performance and result on Thursday in the last 32 of the Europa league. If some think that’s a poor showing then I suggest you go away and rethink your expectations instead of comparing Brendan to Ronny, thinking we’ve got clowns running the team, moaning like eff because we’ve not been scudding teams every time and thinking we will be pumped by the huns.

Might have got the team wrong today but he is picking it not us and if we get thru on thursday today will be forgotten very very quick ...

We slate ex celtic players for criticism in the media then you read a few pages like this on thread and think ....

We needed more fight in midfield, McGregor was never going to to cut it. Kouassi did well but we badly missed Brown. Where was N'tcham? He should at least have been on the bench if he wasn't injured.

The team was hollow today. I suppose if Bitton had been fit he would have started. Not that concerned though, with Aberdeen dropping points we can afford a post Euro draw with the knowledge that Paddy, Rogic and Armstrong amongst others are nearly ready. Then the real fun will begin.

Ntcham was ill. Agree with all the points about the subs, balance of midfield and the clogging that st Johnstone used. Awful, awful refereeing performance. I left a christening party to go to that game. It wasn’t worth it.

5 league games since the split, 6 goals scored.
3 of them in the game when edouard and dembele played together.

We make it too easy for limited players to keep us out. Last league game it was Greer and broadfoot, this time Steven Anderson and a guy who’s been on loan at QOS first half of the season .

These aren’t defensive genuises - put them under sustained pressure and they will make basic mistakes - too often we’ve made it easy to defend against us. All possession and very little penetration.
