I was reading Charly's interview with the Sun over on his thread and one thing occurs to me. Sometimes it is very difficult - no matter how good you are at something - to get on. People aren't willing to take the risk because you've not got a track record at all, let alone a good one. We talk on here about how hard it can be to persuade players to come to Scotland. Lack of competition, pish standard of football etc.

What is slowly happening is that the football world is beginning to look at Celtic with Brendan Rodgers in charge and appreciate that he has this talent to develop young players and that there are far worse places in the world to live and ply your trade than Glasgow in general and Celtic Park in particular. Your reputation is often something which accelerates. It gathers its own momentum.

I think you are going to find that more and more players/clubs/agents will look at Paddy Roberts, Charly Musonda, Kris Ajer, Odsonne Eduoard and others and see signing for Celtic as a very positive move. These players and their agents and their families (Charly's mum is a great PR person for the club already!) will become apostles for the club and spread the word.

Happy days as long as Brendan is here!
Indeed. This all depends on how the careers of Ajer, Roberts, Edouard, Dembele etc go. I know people like to get their knickers in a twist whenever anyone mentions selling our players but if we can continuously prove that playing for a team like Celtic can lead to that "big" move to the top level then we'll be in a great place in terms of being an attractive option for a top young player.

This is why I can't get my head around the "I CGAF where a player goes after Celtic" folk. It is integral to our business model.

The formation worked really well at times, only problem was not enough width up front on the left, left KT with a lot of work to do. I think Edouard should have stayed out wide more.
Aye I think both him and dembele at times didn't make the right runs for him.

Brendan Rodgers 100% refutes any claim Scott Brown is an aggressive player

Questions whether a 16-year-old should’ve been selected for a game of that magnitude

Says it was the easiest team talk he’s ever had to give in his 101 games at Celtic after last meeting with Hearts

🗣️ BR: "Today I have to say a big thank you to Dermot Desmond, Peter Lawwell and the board at Celtic. January was going to be an important month for us and everything I asked for I was able to get."

🗣️ BR: "In terms of experience, quality and players we think we can develop. They delivered everything I wanted so it’s a great credit to them and our recruitment team."

🗣️ BR on @Jack_Hendry2: "At 22 years of age, he’s 6'3, he’s super quick and good one v one defender. I think his potential is huge. That’s what I said to the board when I first seen him play, this is a player I think can be a big player."

🗣️ BR on @Jack_Hendry2: "When you come to Celtic you have to deal with expectation and pressure. If he can deal with all those things then you’ve got a Scottish centre half who has all the attributes of a top class footballer."

🗣️ BR on @ScottBain_: "I didn’t know Scott before coming up here but watching him at Dundee he’s a very capable goalkeeper and I suspect with Craig out in terms of international status it could be something that Scotland look to him also."

🗣️ BR on @ScottBain_: "He understands the line of pass. He contributes in the build-up phase of the game, he’s comfortable with that and make saves. I spoke to both boys they are absolutely delighted to be here."

🗣️ BR on Craig Levein's comments: "It was my 101st game and it was the least game I had to give my players any motivation for. On the aftermath of the last game we had one or two comments that were pretty clear in terms of questioning our desire to win the game."

🗣️ BR on Craig Levein's comments: "Of course with players and people at the club then that sticks. The motivation for the players was simple and I think they showed that in their performance."

🗣️ BR on @OfficialKillie: "Steve’s gone in there and done an excellent job. He’s got them very well organised, very tight and it will be a tough game for us."

Interesting that he's decided not to shield Jack, if anything he s building the expectation level, speaks volumes for BR's belief in the player and his ambitions for him.

Brendan is maybe too much of a gentleman to say it, I'm not, so I'll say it.

The hertz manager,( doesn't deserve to be given his name ), is a Feckin dick.

There, I've said it and I feel better for it.

You could well be right. Hopefully the additions of Compper and Hendry, along with the emergence of Kouassi will make a real difference to our defence throughout season, the amount of games and injuries we've had has left us stretched and form inevitably suffered, we look far better equipped going forward from this window and we'll hopefully see Boyata and Jozo back in business as part a dominating unit. Big Ajer himself has been a breath of fresh air, finding his feet in a revised role.

the defence has been hung out to dry at times and those beatings we took in Europe had a massive negative effect which had us reeling a bit, I think you'll be seeing two defensive midfielders protecting at that level from now on. We needed the break and the window, some freshness and positivity, I'm feeling good about whatever's next.

Tactically I'd been harping on about playing Kouassi with Brown and employing two goalscoring forwards together, we've seen signs that we will be more flexible already against Hearts and that pleased me even if I thought it was a little overdue.

I think this has had a much bigger impact than has been discussed.

You can't get away with bringing players in with the promise of CL football, using it as a platform to promote their careers and get them noticed by some huge money clubs only to get your clock completely cleaned. You have to find a way to play these teams and come away with at least the moral victory, in much the same way we did with Man City last season.

Regardless of the gap, we just cannot continue with some of these gubbings and expect to keep tempting exceptional talent like we did with Dembele and Musonda.

The players can do more but if we keep going at better sides in the same old way then you deserve what you get. Tactically we need to be less predictable, our squad has some great options now enabling us to play in different ways and I feel we are becoming physically stronger (with the likes of Ajer, Eboue and Compper on the scene).

I completely agree. We need to shift our focus from game to game with the emphasis on making an impact rather than this relentless pursuit of ingraining a style of play at any cost.

That's why Musonda is here because Chelsea took a lot of notice of the Barcelona away result last year, and the PSG results this year - like not!!!

No, I don't want to see these results either, but the only people who make a song and dance about the results are:

  • Us (It hurts)

  • Other Supporters (only chance they get to give one to Celtic as they're own teams can't)

  • The SMSM (bunch of twats, who just like eating lamb)
Everyone else in football who knows what they're talking about look at BR / Celtic and the great work we do with bringing on talented young players to the next level

Seems reading isn't your strong point either ;)

I DON'T think the results have had much bearing on how other teams see us when deciding to loan us their young talented players
