Gavin Berry on this one. Looks like they will run with this narrative of BR being "tetchy", whilst "Murts" is a breath of fresh air / on the right track. Don't fall for it lads!
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers in frosty mood as he delivers cold shoulder to Hoops critics The Parkhead gaffer - who opted to stand rather than take his usual seat at yesterday's press conference - again defended his much-scrutinised backline.
Spoiler: click to toggle ByGavin Berry Brendan Rodgers has waxed lyrical on pretty much any topic he has been invited to talk about during his 18 months as Celtic boss. His pre-match press conferences at the club’s Lennoxtown training base are often enlightening with no subject out of bounds for the affable Northern Irishman. But Rodgers was a man of fewer words than usual as he prepares his side for a return to action following a three-week winter break with Brechin the visitors to Parkhead for Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie. Anyone who has just spent some quality time in Dubai, where the Hoops enjoyed a training camp, could be forgiven for wishing they were anywhere else but Glasgow in the current snowstorms. Rodgers, without being curt, certainly gave the impression he didn’t want his press conference to run any longer than it had to with his answers shorter than usual. Rather than taking his usual seat where he is normally in relaxed mood and happy to indulge in idle chit-chat, he opted to stand and it was straight down to business. Rodgers and Celtic returned the snow in Glasgow after a week in Dubai January can be a fraught month for football managers as they look to get their transfer business done and Rodgers could be excused if his mind was on targets or even the lack of activity so far. The news that one of this month’s signings, Marvin Compper, has been ruled out for a month and Tom Rogic still up to eight weeks away from a comeback wouldn’t have helped his mood. And neither did the comments from Kris Commons that Rodgers will face “pressure and scrutiny” if Celtic’s defence is found wanting in their Europa League last-32 tie against Zenit St Petersburg next month. The heart of the Hoops rearguard is an area that has come in for criticism, particularly in the European arena, but Rodgers reiterated yesterday it is not a priority area for him. Commons said: “The weakest part of the defence has been the centre-back position with the mistakes and people not playing to their ability at that level. “I know Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata are brilliant centre-halves but if they are not quite a their A-game then Celtic are going to get found out.” When asked if there was scrutiny on him to strengthen in defence, Rodgers said: “No there’s not. By who? Scrutiny by who?” When it was put to Rodgers what Commons had said, the Celtic boss replied: “Right, Kris Commons ... I’m about deeds, not words. “I’ve heard some s*** since I’ve been up here. I’m worried about deeds. That’s the part of your industry that I don’t like. “I don’t want to stand here and waste my time. I have a mountain of things to do rather than talk about speculation or what Kris Commons or other guys think. “Everyone has an opinion but the opinions are not always the reality.” Asked if he had sufficient depth in Kristoffer Ajer, Dedryck Boyata and Jozo Simunovic, Rodgers said “yes” before adding it wasn’t his priority area. Simunovic has been linked with Burnley, Crystal Palace and Lazio during this transfer window but asked if there had been anything concrete on the Croat Rodgers said: “Nothing. I don’t want to stand here and talk about players or waste my time trying to give you lines to put in the paper to look to sell players. “There are no offers, there is nothing. That’s the same for every player.” But one stopper who did head for the Parkhead exit is Erik Sviatchenko who has returned to Midtjylland and Rodgers admitted the Danish international had to go to keep his World Cup dream alive. Sviatchenko has featured just twice this season, both games coming in Champions League qualifiers before the domestic season had even started but the Celtic manager praised the defender’s attitude. He said: “Erik needed to play. He was a good guy, part of the squad, had been training but wasn’t playing. Others jumped ahead of him in the queue. “He’s an experienced player and wants to play. It’s a chance to go back to his homeland, they have a World Cup, and if he’s playing then he at least has a chance of getting in the squad. “If he’s not playing then he will virtually have no chance. We have enough numbers in that area.” Rodgers predicted a revolving door at Parkhead during this window but it has yet to materialise while some of their Premiership rivals have been active. They already have a healthy eight-point lead and are well on course too for a seventh successive league title so there is little to worry on the domestic front. Celtic have been relatively quiet in the transfer market despite Rodgers predicting a revolving door Rodgers said: “I haven’t seen so much of what others are doing but the more competition there is, in every aspect, the better it is. In any league you want to have the best coaches, the best players involved.” The Parkhead boss could yet be joined in Scotland by countryman Michael O’Neill with the SFA continuing their pursuit of the Northern Ireland manager. Would be be a success if he takes it? Rodgers added: “Yes, I’m sure he would be but I’ll speak on that if he takes it.” https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/celtic-boss-brendan-rodgers-frosty-11869658

" I’m worried about deeds", Brendan channelling Bomber Brown there.
Good on him, Commons probably got a semi when he saw Compper was injured. He couldn't effing wait to say I told you so.
Can't blame the manager at all, sitting in front of those hacks answering the same questions over and over again would test anyones patience.

Something was eating Brendan Rodgers even before a question was put to him at the daily press conference yesterday. When the line of enquiry that followed, naturally, involved the never-ending helpings of transfer speculation which accompanies any transfer window, the sit-in didn’t prove easily digestible to the Celtic manager. For one, it wasn’t even the normal sit-in. While ordinarily, Rodgers takes his chair and chats loquaciously with reporters over any subjects raised, yesterday the Irishman said he was too busy to sit, and elected to stand behind the chair set aside for him. An odd situation never witnessed before in his 19 months at the club, so too was the unmistakable curtness Rodgers
displayed throughout. It was hard to decipher whether the Celtic manager’s mood wasn’t helped by the fact the transfer-window natter seems to have revolved around losing players more than bringing them to the club. In the context of yesterday’s conference, it certainly wasn’t helped by raising Kris Commons’ questioning of the club’s transfer activity in the area of central defence. The former Celtic playmaker effectively stated that if Jozo Simunovic was sold – the Bosnian international is reported to be on the radar of Lazio and Burnley – then Rodgers would not have a central defensive pairing fit for purpose for the Europa League tie against Zenit St Petersburg next month. New signing Marvin Compper is ineligible for the competition, and injured now anyway. With Erik Sviatchenko having gone on loan to former club FC Midtjylland, Commons does not believe teenager Kristoffer Ajer could provide the necessary backline solidity alongside Dedryck Boyata – Rodgers’ recent preferred partnership. The Celtic manager became narky initially when asked if there had been any concrete offers for Simunovic. “Nothing,” he said. “I don’t want to stand here and talk about players or waste my time trying to give you lines to put in the paper to look to sell players. There are no offers, there is nothing. That’s the same for every player.” It was then put to Rodgers that “there is a particular scrutiny on you with Europe in mind to strengthen [in central defence]”. “No, there is not. Scrutiny by whom?” he snapped. By at least Commons himself, it was suggested? “Ok, move on. [before under his breath and disdainfully saying] Kris Commons…” With Nir Bitton also a centre-back option, Rodgers said central defence wasn’t a priority area: “Not for me, no”. It was though when he was asked, in general terms, whether transfer speculation was what frustrated him most that he found a theme he could really vent his spleen over. “Yes, it is. I am one that is about deeds not words. I have heard some s**t since I have been up here. It is the one part of your industry that I do not like. I don’t want to stand here and waste my time when I have a mountain of things to do rather than talk about speculation or what Kris Common or other guys have said. Everyone has an opinion but opinions are not always the reality.” The reality is that Lewis Morgan, who has been loaned back to the St Mirren from whence he was purchased for £300,000, is the only notable signing by Celtic in the month of January. Yet, it was Rodgers who spoke of a “revolving door” at the club after the draw with Rangers on 30 December. That might suggest a frustrating window so far for Rodgers. When that was put to him, he demurred. “No, not really,” he said. “We know what we want and we’re pretty calm on that. We just need to bring in quality. I’m not concerned about the numbers we bring in. The job here is to bring in quality to improve the level we are at, and that usually takes time.” Rodgers said no bids have been made for players at other
clubs but he expects that to change in the coming weeks and is “hopeful” Celtic will be stronger coming out of the window than going into it. https://www.scotsman.com/brendan-rodgers-irked

These articles must be about the conference he does with the written press, because the clip posted by The Edge shows him sat down and talking the same as ever, apart from giving short shrift to the muppet reading stuff straight from his phone. And Kheredine Iddesane, which appears to be a regular occurrence.

BR saying that there has been a couple of enquiries for Moussa.
STAY FOCUSED Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers reckons Moussa Dembele’s head has been turned by interest from Brighton, Crystal Palace and Everton The Frenchman was left out of the Hoops line-up to face Brechin City in the Scottish Cup and the Celtic gaffer admitted the striker isn't completely focused
Spoiler: click to toggle By Colin Duncan BRENDAN RODGERS reckons Moussa Dembele’s head has been turned by the speculation linking him with a £20 million switch south. The Celtic boss admitted the French striker has struggled with his focus in the wake of interest from Brighton, Crystal Palace and Everton. Dembele scored 32 times last term following his move from Fulham, but he has just eight to his name so far this term. The 21-year-old was an unused substitute as Celtic began the defence of the Scottish Cup with a 5-0 demolition job on Championship strugglers Brechin. Rodgers said: “There have been a couple of enquiries for him and I think it is clear he has not been quite the same as he’s been for over a year or so. “My job as the manager and the leader of the team is to ensure his focus is purely on Celtic. “He’s a good kid, but for a lot of players January is a difficult window. “There is lot of speculation, lots of things happening. “I know that some inquiries have come through to Peter (Lawwell) here but nothing concrete. “My job is always to protect the club and ensure everyone who plays is totally focused. “Moussa is fine. There have been a few enquiries and we will see what happens between now and the end of the month.” Rodgers remains confident Dembele can rediscover his best form if he is not sold during the transfer window. He said: “Young players come in here and they do so well. “He has done great for us but there has always been speculation around him and I think for young players it can be difficult at times. “This window, it is a difficult window for players. They are unsure, especially in his case. “But he has no issue, there is no problem. “I could have played him today but for the team and for the dynamic of everything I wanted to put young Odsonne Edouard in. “Moussa is training, he is working and nothing happens between now and the end of January then between then and the end of the season we will see that player really focused and fighting and running and working for the team.” Leigh Griffiths was also missing from the Hoops line-up after picking up an ankle injury, but Rodgers is optimistic he will be fit for Tuesday night’s Premiership clash with Partick. He said: “Leigh had an ankle injury at the beginning of the week and he hadn’t trained. “It was just too much to risk him today. “He joined in a session after the game and hopefully he will come through and be available for Tuesday.” Rodgers fielded a full strength team as Celtic cruised into the fifth round with an impressive display against the part-timers. He added: “I thought Brechin came with a good spirit and history tells you these games can be difficult. “It was a professional performance. We created chances and scored goals at important times. “I tend to field strong teams. I never try to disrespect any opponent. No games are easy these days. “It was important to get our rhythm back and get a good result.” Meanwhile, Darren Dods admits his team never recovered after going two goals down inside ten minutes at Celtic Park. But, the Brechin boss insists he was still proud of the way his players refused to throw in the towel despite losing 5-0 to the Scottish Cup holders. He said: “It was the worst possible start. Two down after 10 minutes at a place like Celtic? “It’s hard enough trying to keep it level let alone be two down so early. Credit to the boys though. They stuck to their task. “We got our composure back midway through the first half. We managed to contain them and we worked hard. We didn’t crumble and we kept going. “It was disappointing losing the fifth but a few players can take credit.” https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/2119931/celtic-brendan-rodgers-moussa-dembele-head/

From the highs of last season to what we are seeing now is typical celtic, we have a record of failing to build on success and instead the board seem to think we should stall because what we have is good enough, any manager is going to be pissed off with that never mind a manager like Brendan who was no doubt promised certain things when he took the job.
None of us know what's going on behind the boardroom doors but we do know Brendan was pissed off when his targets didn't arrive last January and it looks like the same thing is happening just now, but there is still over a week to go and hopefully Brendan gets the signings he wants in that time, he has earned the money and will expect a decent chunk of it for transfers, my fear is if he feels he isn't being backed he might get disheartened and start to think about moving on.
The press are all over sevco just now and it's fair to say quite a few celtic fans are annoyed at our lack of activity, some of the posts on here and on other sites are unreal, reading them you would think we are battling relegation and it's us chasing sevco. If at the end of the window we are no stronger and Brendan is still pissed off that's when we should start demanding answers.

Same old same old. Board won't back the manager. All they want to do is fleece the fans of money and hoard it in the bank.
Can you look yourself in the mirror and say you really really believe that?

Build on success to achieve what? Clean effing sweep domestically last year - will not be topped.
What the hell do you want? Last 16? Then what? Get real.

Brendan seems perfectly calm and assured that we'll get players in.

Maybe Brendan was in front of the boardroom doors when he told Bhoy Barking he was pissed off.

With Nir Bitton also a centre-back option, Rodgers said central defence wasn’t a priority area: “Not for me, no”.
That's slightly worrying.
