“Celtic didn’t qualify for the Champions League and they had Virgil van Dijk and Jason Denayer at centre-half. Who do people want Celtic to get? If we can’t qualify with those two…“
That’s up there with our most infamous transfer window excuses. Sounds like some of the shampoo I read on here.
Not an excuse its a fact, lets judge the club when the window closes.
Rodgers (or any decent manager) would have got that team to the CL. It is BS. Wait till the window closes before judging anyone is my point, BR stated a fact however we all hope for the best this window.

I'll say something for Brendan Rodgers. Although he is quite capable of uttering the usual managerial bullshampoo he never, ever slags his players off in public. What goes on behind closed doors is another matter perhaps.
I think Leigh Griffiths might argue with that when his professionalism was called into question by BR. and jozo
edit to say i agree with what Brendan was saying but he definitely done it in public

BRENDAN Rodgers has tipped Olivier Ntcham to be a major player for Celtic as they pursue the dream of another domestic treble. The Frenchman joined Celtic for £4.5 million in the summer from Manchester City but has been in and out of the team, making just 21 starts from 38 games. However, Rodgers says he has simply been managing Ntcham as he beds in to the quick-and-fast life at Celtic Park and he believes fans will see more of him as the campaign progresses. “He definitely will kick on,” Rodgers said. “It’s just me managing his load and games. He is 21 years old and has been away on loan at Genoa for two seasons in which he played 38 games. “What you can’t do, without running the risk of injury, is expose him to game after game. Especially with his body type. So it is a gradual one. He has come in, played a game, rested through, developed to play two games in a week and then rested for the third. So he had the Aberdeen game, the Dundee game away and then we gave him the breather and he comes into the Rangers game [as a sub]. “When he has the games in his legs and the body to sustain it without risking injury he will play more consecutive games. “His use of the ball, his power his pace and that shooting ability, that’s why we paid for the talent. It’s my job to manage that. Last thing I need is someone who hasn’t played games. He is not like [Scott] Browny who plays 40-50 games a season for 10 years. For Olivier this is his first real episode of playing. I have to manage that.” Reflecting on Celtic’s week in Dubai, Rodgers was delighted with the training camp which has provided his side with a vital change of scenery. And temperature. This was the second year Celtic travelled to the Middle East, and the Northern Irishman says he feels sympathy for other clubs who couldn’t afford to take off for a week. “It’s all relative. If we get to the Champions League, this is what we do. But even if we didn’t qualify there are benefits,” he said. “I trace our success over 19 months and there are lots of things involved in it. But I really trace a big part back to the spirit and the connection in the group that’s formed. It’s about environment and that’s the beauty of this trip. “This season we have had virtually no time to connect since we came in in June. No Christmas parties, nothing. It’s just been that physical and mental load. But you need to be able to connect on the field and off it. You can’t underestimate that. “So I would have sympathy for somebody like Tommy [Wright]. If a club doesn’t have finance then it’s hard to argue against that but you would think they could help in some way. I respect not every club can do it. But if you have owners or sponsors willing to fund it, you should.” He added: “I like to observe. There are some young players so how are they away from home? How do they mix? Some players can really miss their children. I tend to try to have a group that has a good synergy. That’s part of your recruitment. Getting the right types, the right profile. “That’s equal to ability. The talent is no good if it doesn’t work. So it’s critical. I’ve got experience in that now where if it’s not right I will know it.” http://www.heraldscotland.com/Rodgers_happy_to_take_his_time_with_Ntcham/

Brendan Rodgers is backing Olivier Ntcham to be a driving force in Celtic’s push for a double treble. The Parkhead manager is full of belief in his French recruit and feels the midfielder is building up to a strong second half of the season. Ntcham was signed from Manchester City in a £4million deal last summer but Rodgers has taken time to integrate him properly into the rigours of Celtic’s top-team environment. The 21-year-old has shown flashes of real talent but also had to sit out matches with the likes of Scott Brown, Stuart Armstrong, Callum McGregor and Tom Rogic contending for the Hoops’ engine-room spots. But with Celtic having already played near enough the same number of games this season as Ntcham had in the two previous years, Rodgers believes the steady approach taken with the youngster will pay off. The ex-Etihad player started two of Celtic’s final three games in 2017 before coming off the bench in the Old Firm 0-0 draw and Rodgers said: “Olivier will definitely kick on. It’s just me managing his load and games. “He is 21 years old and has been away on loan at Genoa for two seasons in which he played 41 games. “What you can’t do without running the risk of injury is expose him to game after game, especially with his body type, so he is a gradual one. “He has come in, played a game, rested through, developed to play two games in a week then rested for the third. “He had the Aberdeen game, the Dundee game away then we gave him the breather and he came into the Rangers game. “When he has the games in his legs and the body to sustain it without risking injury, he will play more consecutive games. “His use of the ball, his power, his pace and that shooting ability, that’s why we paid for the talent and it’s my job to manage that. “The last thing I need is someone who hasn’t played games. “He is not like Scott who plays 40 to 50 games a season for 10 years. For Olivier this is his first real episode of playing. I have to manage that.” Rodgers has praised Ntcham’s development on the pitch since last summer’s switch as well as his demeanour off it around the club and in the dressing room. The Northern Irishman said: “He is just a good guy. Quiet, relaxed but focused. “Olivier loves football. Football is his life and he doesn’t waste his time doing daft things. He prepares himself well, trains every day and does extra work. He loves football and talks about football. “He is just really coming to terms with playing for a big club with pressure and becoming accustomed to that. “But he’s a real good boy, no issues. He knows the path he is on and I’ve really been pleased with him. “It’s not about shouting and screaming, it’s about having the right mentality. That’s the respect I have for these players. “Lots of players have motivation but to have the consistency of motivation over the period of time they showed it is absolutely incredible. “Olivier has that mentality and it’s a case of continuing with that.” Ntcham and the rest of Celtic’s squad are back in Scotland having flown home from a training camp in Dubai last night. And the manager believes their time in the United Arab Emirates was key for a number of reasons as others, such as countryman St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright, failed to enjoy warmer climes. He said: “It’s all relative. “If we get to the Champions League this is what we do. But even if we didn’t qualify there are benefits. “I trace our success over 19 months and there are lots of things involved in it. “But I trace a big part back to the spirit and the connection in the group that’s formed. “It’s about environment and that’s the beauty of a trip. This season we have had virtually no time to connect whatsoever since we came in in June. No Christmas parties, nothing. “It has just been that physical and mental load. There are some young players so how are they away from home? How do they mix? “Some players can really miss their children. I tend to try to have a group that has a good synergy and that’s part of your recruitment – getting the right types, the right profile. “That’s equal to ability. The talent is no good if it doesn’t work so it’s critical. I have experience in that now where if it’s not right I will know it. “So I will take a lesser talent who is coachable and hungry and bring that into my group. “We get linked with lots of players and there are lots who could probably play for Celtic. But they don’t have the right characteristics to do it so they don’t come in. Simple.” https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/olivier-ntcham

Brendan Rodgers insists mentality can trump ability as he steps up his January recruitment drive. The Celtic manager is hunting more fresh faces after capturing and Lewis Morgan. But he says he won’t put the unity of his squad at risk for the sake of a signing. The boss is adamant only the right types will enter his dressing room as the Hoops bid to progress in Europe, defend their league title and retain the Scottish Cup. Rodgers said: “I tend to try to have a group that has a good synergy. “That’s part of your recruitment. Getting the right types. The right profile. That’s equal to ability. “The talent is no good if it doesn’t work. So it’s critical. I’ve got experience in that now where if it’s not right I will know it. “So I will take a lesser talent who is coachable and hungry and bring that into my group.” Rodgers – who took a gamble by signing Mario Balotelli for Liverpool before punting the maverick Italian a year later after just one Premier League goal – said: “We get linked with lots of players and there are lots who could probably play for Celtic. “But they don’t have the right characteristics to do it. So they don’t come in. Simple.” https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/rodgers-reveals-celtics-transfer

Is there anything new that a manager can actually say about the game?
And even if it is some new and slightly mystical salad of tactical and motivational words, how often can you keep saying the same things when you work with the same people day in, day out.
I like the idea of the players gazing back at Brendan as he gives another “Any Given Sunday” style speech, but realistically I imagine the players will have heard the same boring stuff hundreds of times over, whether its Brendan, Pep or anyone else.

A 'slightly mystical salad'.
One for the Food & Drink Section, surely.

I think your right, which is why having players with that the right 'self driven' mentality is just as important. (See Broony, KT as obvious examples).
This is even more important as we play the same teams 4/5 times a season. The repetition of the league must be difficult to combat.
