True. I was thinking more in comparison to Deila, completely forgetting about anything before that.
Mhogga signed about 35 players and got Robbie Keane flung in as well. that was more quantity over quality

It's far from knee jerking Astana was a shambles because the business BR wanted done in January wasn't Bitton at centre half 😂 because we've no one else Games where we had no striker We've shown no progress in quality of play in Europe at all And why should we - BR has wrung everything he could out of Gordon boyata jozo Armstrong - none of whom are strong enough for Europe Lustig is a great servant but looks dead on his feet And we are risking tierney because he has to play all the time Mcgregor br has developed to his max And everyone can see griffiths isn't performing Dembele will want away sooner rather than later The time to strengthen and prevent what has happened this season was Jan last year and summer Instead we are treading water and look knackered The money is there - more than we've ever had as a result of one person and one only BR Was he backed to qualify - was he eff Instead we get an effin hotel project The board have always reverted to complacency as soon as the heat is off them And that's reflected on the park they should be delivering sufficient volume and quality of players so that BR can move others on and bed in new players

FFS! I'm away to cut my throat. only kiddin torq To be fair, the unanimous consensus on this forum before the summer window shut seemed to be that we didn't need a third striker.
When it turned out having a third option was kind of necessary suddenly Lawwell was, "drunk at the wheel", again.

There were plenty of people calling for a decent alternative to Griffiths and Dembele, especially given the latter’s quality and potential to entice a large bid the club probably wouldn’t knock back.

Anyone who thinks that the board has backed Rodgers to the full has obviously never had any business dealings with Peter Lawwell.
you want to explain what that means? What kind of dealings have you had with Lawwell that would give you an insight into how the Board have backed the manager or not, as you suggest? He can be pretty mean in football manager

Aye, and even more saying, "third striker will just sit on the bench, there's no point" etc, etc.

Hardly a unanimous consensus then. Dembele and Griffiths at various staged had injuries between them from last season through to this. I think people definitely wanted another striker so we could avoid more situations like Rosenborg away, with both of them out and Forrest stepping in.

I also seem to recall talking about it at various junctures last season and reading about the desire for another striker anytime Ciftci was seen near the team.

BRENDAN RODGERS never doubted his side’s character in defeat — because he has no d***heads in his dressing room. Celtic’s record-breaking 69-game unbeaten run came to a crashing end at Tynecastle last week. But just three days after the crushing 4-0 loss, the Hoops got back on track with victory over Partick Thistle. And Rodgers reckons the unique team spirit forged over 585 unbeaten days of domestic competition will stand them in good stead for the title run-in. The Celtic boss revealed: “We had a reflective couple of days after Hearts, as we always do whether we win, lose or draw. “You saw the response of the team on Wednesday night. It is all part of the culture we have here. We are very lucky, we have got no d***heads. “There is no pointing fingers, that’s what is important. We are very self-reflective. “We weren’t so good against Hearts, but, as I said to the players, you are defined on disappointment in your life. “As a man and as a team, how do you respond and get up from it? The players did that. “What could have been a very awkward game for us against a stubborn opponent who drew with us at home last season went well. “To go 69 games without losing and win four trophies is a really good start. Your name is now carved in history. So now let’s push on to the next phase.” Celtic host nearest challengers Aberdeen at Celtic Park. The Dons too are back on track following two months of uncertainty surrounding manager Derek McInnes. And Rodgers insisted: “I think the stability has probably really helped them. Even before my time up here Aberdeen have been the team closest to Celtic. “There was obviously a choice for Derek to make and I think he maybe said himself at the time that there was an impact on the team in the couple of games they had against Rangers. “But since that they’ve had a good reaction.” Rodgers secured his first signing of the January transfer window on Wednesday when Celtic agreed a deal for RB Leipzig defender Marvin Compper. In all likelihood his arrival spells the end of Erik Sviatchenko’s Celtic career with others set to follow if Rodgers can attract new recruits. The Hoops boss said: “There will naturally be players who have not been playing who will be looking to move on. It was an area we wanted to strengthen so obviously there will be fewer opportunities for some guys. “It allows them to come in every day knowing where their future is, how hard they need to work. If it’s here, great, if not they need to prepare for the next move.” https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/character-in-defeat

Might just be me but defo think that last sentence was aimed at Erik. Wonder if there's a story there, or if its just his general lack of ability. Not had a sniff since he came back fit.

BRENDAN RODGERS insists the arrival of veteran defender Marvin Compper will not signal the end for Dedryck Boyata or Jozo Simunovic. But the signing of the 32-year-old German will see Erik Sviatchenko moved on in the January transfer window. Compper completed his £1million move from RB Leipzig last week and will join up with the rest of his team-mates in the New Year. Rodgers was desperate to bring in an experienced centre-half but is adamant Boyata and Simunovic will remain a key part of his future plans. The Celtic boss said: “Marvin was that type we were after. “When looking at centre-halves you are either getting a player at the beginning of his career that you can develop or you get one towards the end of his career. “Very rarely do you get a player aged 26/27 coming here at the peak of his career. “When Kolo Toure moved on I felt we were missing someone of that status. “Marvin brings us that and has recent history of playing at the top end of the Bundesliga. “I’ve got very good players here. Some of them will move on in January because they’ll want to play more games. “I wouldn’t have thought Dedryck or Jozo would move on.” But Rodgers will not stand in the way of Sviatchenko leaving. He added: “Erik’s behaviour has been exemplary in the time I’ve been here. “He and I have been clear when it comes to where he’s at.” https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/rodgers-boyata-jozo-simunovic/
