If we don't lose a league game before January, I'll put us odds-on to do another unbeaten Treble

BRENDAN RODGERS says he has seen plenty of talented players during his 18 months in Scotland who could grace the famous Hoops.

But he reckons most don’t have the mentality to become one of the Bhoys.

The Celtic boss knows it takes a special kind of player to be able to handle the pressure of playing in front of 60,000 at Parkhead and training with international stars every day.

And while he is happy to smash all sorts of records along the way, all he is concerned about is his players doing the business on the park.

He takes his Invincibles to Tynecastle as they look to stretch their unbeaten domestic run to 70 games.

The Northern Irishman knows their incredible record will end some day.

But he insists his players will NEVER become lazy — or they’ll find themselves out the team.

He said: “Our expectation is always to win.

“My job is to manage the expectation — to keep finding things, keep raising the bar and trying to be the best we can.

“The team will never be complacent. Something might go against us, luck might go against us, but it will never be complacency.

“It’s very important they have that psyche. That’s the mindset we’ve tried to introduce since we came in here.

“You can’t have a lazy day. Well you can if you want, but you can’t play at Celtic.

“It’s one of the laws on the price tag of success. You have to be on it. You have to be ready to work no matter how you feel or if you’re motivated. You make a commitment.

“You come in here and you see a star, which means the club is a European Cup winner. That tells you that you have to be good just to be here.

“I’ve seen a number of players up here who could probably play for Celtic — but the big difference is mentality.

“Some players will be as quick as our boys, equally as skilful, but when it comes to it, how are they mentally?

“It’s tough because they can’t cope with the demands every day, to lead the life — diet, nutrition, preparation, concentration, drive, resilience.

“That’s what it takes when you want to play for the big club.

“It’s sometimes why some very good players go to big clubs and people wonder why it doesn’t work out for them.

“It’s not that they’re bad players. It’s because every single day of your life at a big club is a challenge.

“It’s not just about playing for a big club, you have to be ready to train with a big club.

“It’s why so many players that come from good teams, where they know they’re going to play every week and it doesn’t matter how they train, they get a move to a big club and they struggle to train, never mind play.”

Despite keeping up their unbeaten record, the Hoops have failed to win in their last two away games.

Rodgers says the Celtic players will never get lazy

A 1-1 draw with Motherwell and a 2-2 draw with Hibernian last Sunday kept the chasing pack on the Hoops’ tail in the title race.

Rodgers knows winning in the Premiership is never easy — with one rival player admitting beating the champions would be like lifting a trophy.

He added: “We are only six points different from last year, so we are not far away.

“Last season was the most goals scored, the most points, it was a unique season really. Those are one-off seasons.

“But the players have followed it up remarkably well. They are a bigger target this year but still they have continued to win.

“We won our first trophy of the season and have European football after Christmas.

“We always aim for improvement though. I think the league is strong. I thought it was strong last year but there’s maybe an extra motivation to end the Celtic record.

“We played Motherwell and one of their young players talked about beating Celtic being like winning a trophy.

“That tells you everything about what it means to the other teams.”

Rodgers today returns to the ground where he picked up the baton from Ronny Deila of keeping Celtic’s unbeaten run going.

He admits he is looking forward to his trip to the capital but insists he doesn’t care what people think of his Parkhead achievements.

He said: “I’m not after the credit or approval from others. Opinions don’t affect the reality for me.

“It may for other people but we don’t need it, we just try and win the next game.

“Tynecastle is always a great atmosphere. To be drawn away at Hearts on my first league game was tough, but we got through it.

“Then the day we wrapped up the league there showed the improvement we had made during the season.

“I am looking forward to seeing the new stand. It looks nice from the outside.

“And Hearts, I am sure, will be happy to be back at home again.

“Playing at Tynecastle has always traditionally been a tough place for Celtic to go but it’s a wonderful stadium to work in.”

How does he know if guys don't have the mentality?
What's with Eboue, he signed him but hasn't gave him a sniff.
Is Brendan talking generally or specifically?

Big week for him now. Today has been coming. Players not at it and teams getting through us.our goals against column doesn’t reflect how we’ve really been defending.

We're in a very strange position of our attack often bailing our defence out. When Dembele and co aren't at it - usually in the CL - we are shampooe.

Game was over when the game plan went out the window today - which was probably around half time. Two strikers left us exposed. Then we go with three and the team loses all shape and purpose. Manager got it wrong.

First time he’s really faced adversity as our manager.

We’ve been lacklustre too often this season, unbelievably naive in the Champions League Group stages and today’s capitulation is probably our worst domestic performance since Mowbray.

2 points ahead of Aberdeen (albeit with a game in hand) is not where we should be at this stage. The unbeaten run has papered over some cracks, not least in our defence and goalkeeper. Hopefully it won’t any more.

Give him some dough.

Hopefully he’s aware of the clowns in this team and who needs punted.

His players let him down badly today. Got it wrong by just throwing on strikers though.

Yup. Can only do the best with what he's got but the Honeymoon Period is over. Needs to get his own players in and mould this squad. And needs backed to do so.

Don't have a problem with him throwing the strikers on, it's who he took off I would question.

Maybe he WILL get some dough now. Get the feeling if we kept plodding on with poor performances but remaining undefeated the board would as miserly as usual. Hopefully this forces their hand.

Love the gaffer for what he is and what he has done but this is hs biggest challenge yet after that today.

For me constantly changing strikers and midfield not set most weeks is a wee bit confusing. The players let him down badly today. He surely to god must see pur defence particularly in the middle is error prone and to erratic. Sinclair needs dropped and lacks confidence. Armstrong wants to boost then let him.

Trust him to turn it around of course just hope the board let him by giving him funds and a mini clear out now of players who aint good enough.

Needs money to ship the nonsense out and get better players out. He was pissed off after anderlecht and I would imagine the same feelings are there today.

If guys lime boyata, Armstrong, jozo think they are to good for us then they are at it

Its not just about new players, its about what he does on the training ground. This season has seen more teams try and get in our faces higher up the pitch and force mistakes. We leave far too many gaps at the back that teams who shift the ball forward quickly can exploit. Brendan needs to work on getting a better balance between defence and attack, some of that may come with new players but a lot will come from altering how we play.

Very gracious in defeat. Well beaten today. Personally I loved the after the game huddle he put the team in. Togetherness and spirit. 69 and out. Thanks Brendan for a run that will never happen again
