Delighted with the appointment (even though I wanted Moyes as my first pick). That said, are we not getting a wee bit carried away with a carnival on the Celtic Way and comparing this to the MON days?

When Brendan has pumped Barca, Liverpool, Juve, Lyon, Blackburn and taken us all the way to a Euro final maybe then we can compare him to the blessed one.
Yip but we might as well enjoy it though until the real work begins.

Big difference with MON is that he inherited a squad full of talent - what Rodgers would give right now for inheriting any of the three L's let alone all three as MON did (and more)

Sure getting him in as manager has shown a level of intent not seen since MON/Strachan but we are not going to wave a magic wand and start competing for the level of player that was completely out of our reach before.

I really hope Rodgers succeeds, even though he is nowhere near being my choice as manager

I will be delighted to get totally proven wrong if he takes us to a level of successful fast intelligent entertaining football we all want to see.

People are comparing it to the appointment of MON.

And fair play to the club for generating a bit of atmosphere, excitement and sense of occasion. Things sadly lacking over recent seasons.
I honestly don't remember MON's appointment being met with the same level of enthusiasm. Recall people being happy but we also knew how easily Rangers had been thumping us for the last two seasons.

Quite optimism more than euphoria.
I don't remember it either. Most people felt we were way, way behind the huns at the time and not much would change it.

Class.

On the point about Rodgers being similar to Deila with fitness and diet, i think most managers are now to be fair. The issue wasnt what was being said, it was more down to who was saying it. The media (ex players included), Players and a lot of fans just didn't buy Delia from the start. He was always seen as a cheap option.

If Rodgers wants to implement diet/fitness etc he will get a far better buy in from senior pros simply because he has managed some of the top players. Imagine bing a young striker at celtic and Rodgers says "this is what Suarez used to do....." you would eat shampoo up... in fact senior pros would be all over that too.

Reputation is everything in football.

Its no surprise that guys like Sutton and Hartson have declared him a great appointment already... these guys know now that Rodgers name carry's more weight than theirs. Deila never had that.

And if he does that we can go back in time and give him a proper welcome. Until such time, suppress all excitement.

The issue with the fitness under Deila is that we never really seemed much fitter.

There were quite a few reservations.

Many remembered him as a pundit in France 98 and he talked absolute drivel for much of it. Additionally, his Leicester team weren't renowned for playing particularly good football. He also cut a bit of an eccentric madcap figure on the touchline. And, some liked the idea of Hiddink.

He was though instantly impressive from his the 1st minute of his press conference onwards. And by 2pm on August 27 three was no doubt we were in a revolution.
