He’s fair racking up the European records is Brendan. Guilty of picking the wrong team tonight, and of failing to recognise the problems early enough. Change for change sake from Saturday, to the detriment of the performance. Perhaps it’s just too easy domestically.

Agree about replacement for Roberts . If we don’t sign a replacement in January might be an indication that he thinks we can get him permanently in summer

Hopefully we don’t spend all summer chasing him again then.

We need to strengthen our keeper, right back, Centre half and centre mid.

Strasbourg beat that PSG team at the weekend. We lost 5-0 at home to them. 7-1 away. Anderlecht had more chances v bayern than us, at Celtic Park they played Coman up front instead of lewandoski and still won. Last year we lost 2-0 at home to a gladbach team who sacked their manager not long after. Almost any other pot3 team in the last few yrs and we're finishing 4th. Need to be more pragmatic in europe.
We were very 'pragmatic' tonight.
The problem tonight wasn’t pragmatism, it was the lack of desire to get forward.

Yep, defence and GK priority for me.

Essentially we ended up playing back five. That's pretty 'pragmatic'.

We seemed quite deep the first half starting off and they pressed us, couldn't get out for a period.

We did, and in doing so lost all the benefits of James Forrest’s current form. He effectively played right back for the entire second half. We did get a result that sees us still in Europe, so maybe pragmatism works after all.

True. Brendan won't be properly backed, though.

It's easy to have a go at him but Brendan really isn't helping his own cause in Europe. He doesn't seem to know his own best team, or players, or maybe in his defence he just doesn't rate many of them at this level. Griffiths especially must feel miffed when Sinclair continually starts ahead of him even though he has been mince for most of the season. Likewise Armstrong should be benched and just used as a sub, he can't cut it physically and mentally at this level but Brendan continues to play him. He is giving his critics all the ammo to have a go at him.

PSG, City, Barca and Bayern I can understand but to be comprehensively outplayed by a side of Anderlecht’s stature at home at this stage of Brendan’s tenure is supremely disappointing. He’s not going to get the players of the standard he needs to play the system he wants to unless the scouting system starts bringing in a Dembele with every signing. He’s got to improve the players we’ve got further and organise them better than the leaky shambles we’ve seen in Europe or we’ve just bumped into Brendan’s Euro ceiling.

European home record is terrible. £100+ quid to watch us beat 3 times with a grand total of 1 goal scored.

The only time we’ve turned up and played our own game we’ve won. Against PSG and tonight Brendan clearly never got his message accross to the players - and that is concerning.

Tactically continuing to put faith in Armstrong in the CL has cost us. His heart isn’t in it. I’m not a huge fan of Ntcham but he was brilliant on Saturday and there’s no way he should have been dropped for McGregor.

Domestic dominance and the brand of football his teams play means he’ll always be a hero in my eyes but in Europe he has to do better. He’s a very good manager but he’s far from the complete genius many people bestow on him. Some people were saying he was better than MON - that might be true in time but for that to be the case he has to deliver more in Europe.

Tonight felt like evidence that he’s taken the current squad as far as it can go in European competitions. We’re at least a few players short of being remotely competitive at CL level. Not convinced we’ll fare much better in the Europa League either.

We can be pragmatic and break with pace. We didn’t show much desire to get forward.

They stopped us playing out from the back as they committed so many men into our half, but when we won the ball, there was no urgency to get forward quickly and they just dropped back off whilst we effed about at the back.

We can take solace in the fact we’re through.

We have played a brilliant 45 minutes of CL football this season, the remaining 495 minutes have been bad. Poor performances and a lack of guile from everyone involved doesn't really fill me with confidence at our Europa League hopes. If we play like we did in the 45mins we'll get a few more games out of Europe this season, if we revert to the performance of tonight we'll be humped off just about everyone in the competition.

Changes are needed and BR is definitely the best man for the job, he's growing up at this level as much as the players are.
