The fact of the matter is we are lucky to have him, so enjoy this experience while it lasts, it won't be forever. No one is perfect - especially not against the most expensively assembled team on the planet which is on a different level to everything else right now.

Thought tonight would've been a decent opportunity to try a more contained approach.pressure was off to a certain extent.
If Brendan has designs on finishing second in a group at during his time here, at some point we are going to have to beat a team who is considerably better than us.
At the moment we look more likely to beat teams in and around the same level but look much more likely to get a hiding off the elite.

No plan B when we simply don’t have the quality of player to implement Plan A at this level.

A more pragmatic manager would have binned this fantasy football a year ago.

Another embarrassing gubbing and, more worryingly, he doesn’t seem willing to learn his lesson. Expect more record breaking thrashing’s to come.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deepAlso, our goal difference is 4 better than theirs. Surely that means they would need to stick 4 past us without us scoring?
If they beat us by three that means:

Our goal difference gets three goals worse, and

Theirs improves by three goals

resulting in a six-goal swing

(I hope, or I'm making a massive carrot of myself. Which would at least be something to laugh at)
Spot on.

Any Anderlecht win by a 3 goal margin would see them get 3rd.

After a 3-0 reverse the head to head would be level. It then goes to goal difference - and a 3-0 win would make theirs better than ours. So they would go through. A 2-0 defeat or better takes us through. 4-1 and we'd go out on away goals with the head to head.

Nothing has changed since the draw was made. We're in a battle for third spot against the pot 3 team. My money is on us achieving that and as a consequence we'll have European football after Christmas. That in a nutshell is progress.

You will learn a lot more by giving things a go than by changing things and losing by a smaller margin.

Exactly. Which is why I genuinely can't understand the angst. It isn't nice to see your team take a whooping but we are talking about the best team on the planet right now. Bottom line - we are where we hoped we'd be - in with a great shout of European football after Christmas.

The fact no defensive players where signed has cost us this season, there is an overhaul needed if we want to progress in Europe and serious money needs to be spent, O'Neill built from the back and apart from his keeper that defence was solid, Rodgers wants attacking football but there is no point scoring 1 if you concede 2, KT and Lustig are quality and Boyata is decent enough but jozo is far too injury prone and eric is not good enough, we also need decent cover for right and left back, i think he needs to start playing ajer and ralston more if he plans on keeping them because first team football is the only way they will get up to speed, we can afford to bed them in playing in league games.

A keeper and a quality proven centre back are a must, not an unknown project but someone who can come in and pull the defence together, if only kolo was 3 years younger! tonights result was expected but the scoreline wasn't, we shouldn't be letting anyone score 7 even if they are 500m worth of forwards. January is a big month for us and i hope he has targets lined up and doesn't leave it too late and we miss out, if we want to get anywhere in the Europa cup he needs to buy quality and thats if we finish 3rd, i have no faith in that defence at all at this level.

A settled defence with quality ready to cover injuries is a must, we get by in the spl but not in Europe.

If BR got his tactics wrong, can someone explain why and what they would have done different? The players were passive and defended poorly but the team was a lot more pragmatic that it was in previous CL games.

Once again we tried to go toe to toe.
No we didn't.

No matter Rodgers tactics you can't compensate for some of the individual errors being made time and time again at this level.

1st goal your captain and most experienced player gifting possession 35 yards from goal with a piss poor 5 yard pass then making an arse of a tackle to commit a foul and your goalkeeper being beat as easily as he was from a tight angle.

2nd goal again Brown not anywhere near close enough and passed around twice in the build up then a good finish from Neymar.

3rd goal a fairly straightforward cross to the back post several defenders ball watching and the PSG players were lining up to tap the ball into the net.

4th goal comical defending from another cross/set piece players swinging legs at loose balls etc. It breaks to Mbappe who's shot isn't the best and Gordon's attempt at a save isn't enough to keep it out.

5th goal another poor defensive goal to concede. Tierney easily beaten by Mbappe on the left cuts the ball back into the area Brown hangs a leg out and knocks it straight into Verattis path and his shot goes in. Defensive shape all over the place at this point.

6th goal good play down the left by PSG. Bitton easily beaten and allows the cross into the box. Poor positioning from Tierney as the ball drops over his head and the finish from Cavani is stunning on the volley.

7th goal great strike from Alves. Nobody in particular to blame by this point the majority of the team had even given up closing down men.

I would argue the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th goals were all pretty easily avoidable. We need better quality defenders and a goalkeeper if we are to cut these needless errors out. Similar to the mauling we received in Barca last year we have conceded at least 4 very cheap goals and if you do that it's never gonna end well against these types of teams.

Get the feeling that you're right. Football has changed massively in the last few years. Even MON's team would have shipped about four. PSG look unstoppable.

I don't think it fair to match ourselves against PSG as I think they are freaky this season, matched against Bayern and Anderlecht and we've competed reasonably well IMHO and have shown progress

McGregor and Rogic are renowned, of course, for their defensive work.

That doesn't mean we went toe to toe. That would have been starting with a 4-3-3, for Rodgers I'd say that was a pretty conservative starting XI.

Agree, but the most disappointing thing is the stupid mistakes we're making. Aye, we'd have probably still lost by a margin last night, but we're our own worst enemies at this level. Playing a far superior team and being comfortably beaten you can understand. Giving the ball away trying to make a 10-yard pass is unacceptable.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Not saying they were, but it’s still naive leaving the possibility. Another way to look at it would be a point would have sealed third. Only way to do that would be make ourselves difficult to beat. Our defensive line in the 2nd half was abysmal and left massive holes in behind for the likes of rat boy to run into.

I thought that initially until someone on the post match thread said otherwise

I’m not having a go at the manager or the team, but for people to suggest this is the route to progress - I don’t buy it.
Try and keep the score down in Paris lads so we can go through even if we get gubbed 3-0 at home by a shampooe Anderlecht side is a hideous message to send

What about the point to secure third?

Do you think our players would take more confidence from gaining a point from being harder to beat, than they do after a hiding but managing a few nice passages of play?
