Manchester City will compete with Liverpool for Southampton's Netherlands defender Virgil van Dijk, 26, in the January transfer window. (Daily Mirror)

Hopefully
Van Dijk would be a great fit at City. They are already a pretty formidable machine, this would definitely improve them.

Indeed. What is the clause we have for this sale again?

I believe the sell-on fee is 15% of the selling fee less the price they bought him for

I'm new. Be gentle.
Why don’t we just contact Southampton and offer to waive the fee, and we’ll just take him back for free.

Love Brendan . But let's be honest . He is beyond naive at setting up how to defend in Europe .

We don't have the quality of players to play the way we want at this level even if we had bought two new centre halfs, we still need to play more circumspect and contain and protect far better

How to win comfortably away to Anderlecht by playing our game at a higher level?

I feel like we’ve made enormous progress this season in the Champions League in terms of our possession and offensive play.

The defensive side really could be tightened up though. Brendan needs to be given some dough to sort the defence and keeper out and he needs to find a defensive structure which allows us to close the gap a little at this level.

And maybe find a way to tighten up against even higher opposition?

Saying that he has money and should move on players if they can't play his way. Boyata and his agent for two have a bloody cheek.

At least 1, ideally two cb's who can play and are leaders and a dm in the same mould might make a difference.

Judge the gaffer at this level once he has a realistic budget to play with until then just go with the flow.

Brendan, I like you. I like you a lot in fact.

However, I would like you a lot more if you could just buy a goalkeeper who isn't effing hopeless.

Some new defenders wouldn't go amiss either.

Oh, and point out to the players that they need to learn to up the pace a bit when playing in the CL. They can't play soft passes and hope their team-mates are alert enough to get there before the opposition.

Apart from that though, good job overall so far

Incorrect. Most of the goals we've lost have been avoidable and none of them are because of how we've set up. We've given the all away too easily, failed to mark men properly and been undone by better players.

No one has got in behind us because we've been firing our fullbacks up the park and getting down on the counter.

Folk are criticising BR for getting us to try and play. With the way we defend, does anyone think pumping it up long to Dembele and sitting 10 men in and around our box will work?

He'll never have a budget that can compete at this level which is why you have to make the best of what you've got. That's where he should be judged.

Defensively there's questions to be asked. That tag came with Rodgers though. We know that he isn't necessarily the guy to set you up for a 'anti football' display the way a Lennon or O'Neill could've.
