Great night at the Armadillo tonight.

Few quiet digs into the manky mob went down a treat.

The story of Danny McGrain turning up for the first day of training under BR, in his own gear, and asking if he’s still wanted, is both humbling and heartening. A true great :)

I am quite prepared to take the odd humping in the CL if it means we can watch Celtic playing like that.
This and this all day long.

I wasnt at the Armadillo so dont know the Danny story.

But i do know Brendan's a class act and total gentleman who knows the history.

I expect the story ended with Danny still with us,much loved and valued.

We're very lucky to have a man and manager of his wisdom and soul at our club.

Both of them.

It’s a story I’d like to hear too.

The idea of turning Danny McGrain away from Celtic Park is too desperately sad to contemplate.

Night at the Armadillo was great.

Brendan was as honest and charming as ever - crowd lapped it up and were just the right side of enthusiastic -I thought Brendan might not get a chance to speak for shouts and chants but that wasn't the case.

Eamonn Holmes - who was excellent - asked how it felt to win the treble - a shout came from the crowd which was heard by everyone ' f.....g great'
Brendan waited for the laughs to subside and brought the house down with his own ' yeah f.....g great '

Brendan swears !!!!!!!

Going to show my ignorance here, but is this a formation BR should consider against Bayern?

3-at-the-back would be scary, but they'd be protected to a degree by the extra man in midfield. And our wide midfielders may help counter their wingers.
It's tricky because we've been drawn in successive seasons against 2 of only about 8 clubs in the entire continent who can totally dismantle and hammer anyone.

If we were to play the same system as last night then Bayern could very well quickly turn our theoretical 3-4-3 into a 5-4-1. Coman forcing Forrest back on one side and Robben doing likewise to Tierney on the other. Alaba and Kimmich overlapping from full back thus causing Lustig and Bitton to get dragged out from right and left centre back to help the outnumbered wide players, Brown dropping in to cover for the centre back when one's forced out of the centre and so on. You lose your compact defensive shape, it's difficult to get cohesion in your game when you do get on the ball and they probe for the gap and sooner or later get the goal to press home their advantage. That's worse case scenario obviously.

On the other hand, we haven't looked secure in the wide defensive areas against the elite teams anyway playing a 4-2-3-1, especially when Sinclair drifts infield and leaves Tierney overworked. Gamboa also got exposed the last day on the other side. Maybe going with this 3-4-3 formation is worth the risk as it would least be trying something different. It should give us enough bodies in midfield to compete centrally anyway and, even if we get forced back into our own half, Dembélé's return is important as he's better at holding up the ball and has more physical strength than Griffiths. He would hopefully be better equipped to win a few freekicks to take us up the pitch as well as taking the ball in and linking with the midfield runners.

That said, I can't see Rodgers leaving both Sinclair and Roberts out of a European game and neither of them is suited to playing as a wing back with the extra defensive responsibilities it entails.

Overall, it can feel like a case of picking your poison against the likes of PSG and Bayern Munich as the financial disparity these days make it almost impossible to match them irrespective of how you set up.
Think that's a fair point about Sinclair and Roberts not being suited to playing wing-back. Maybe rules this formation out for next week.

It'll be interesting to see how BR sets us up, though.
Just like us V Aberdeen though, when you have higher quality players, you can win the 1v1 situations and actively try to create them. They were great at isolating Gamboa last time out. I think we have to just be at our best and have the right attitude. Then hope they aren't. The big problem we've had against the big guns under BR is showing them too much respect, standing off and not tackling. Change that and we have a better chance of at least competing.

I really want to hear the Danny McGrain story.
Brendan was at his first day at Lennoxtown, and his full day was full of meeting the staff and players. His PA then informed him that Danny McGrain wanted to meet him later that day. Being a lifelong Tim, BR was saying he was the one who was excited about it.

So the meeting comes and Danny McGrain walks in. Unlike everyone else who has been kitted out in the brand new New Balance training gear on their first day back, Danny walks in in his own gear and sits down. He then says to Brendan; "I wasn't sure if you still wanted me." Brendan then tells them that as long as he's here of course Danny will be here. He's Danny McGrain.

Paraphrased slightly, but hopefully you get the jist. Was a lovely story. Was great to see Danny there too last night. A hero :rocker:

Yeah I think that's the case, said the same thing last night to my mate.

He also gave a mention to Tosh McKinley, saying he was doing an excellent job scouting for us. Was nice to see him give a wee mention to a few of the ex-players who still work around the club.

^^^^

The point was that Danny being Danny wouldn't make any assumptions he still had a job which was why he didn't change into the training gear until he had spoken to Brendan about it.

Anybody who knows Danny will know to this day he still will only refer to Jock as "Mr.Stein" - Similarly to this day Ten Thirty still talks about Jock as "The Boss".

Brendan talked about The Lions and Greats like Danny never losing their "humility" - Just like Brendan himself. :worthy: - You could see he was close to tears when he came to talking about losing his parents.

It was a good wee night - The couple of pops at the Zombies and although set up and obviously coming the "Glasgow Derby" line still worked well.

I think , for perhaps the first time ever, our players are being tutored in the deviant practices of the SMS , and told not to make any provocative replies to loaded questions. I am really pleased to see this, as it gives these leeches absolutely nothing to use against us. They tried so hard to goad Bitton into talking about the unbeaten Record, but he took his time, and swatted their attempts at headline grabbing aside.
Well done to whoever is coaching the players in this.
