Brendan Rodgers : "I'd rather we lose a game playing how we want to play

Thats a shocking statement :ffs: We cant play the way you want in Europe so adapt your tactics and make us difficult to beat at least.
He hasn't lost a game domestically. I think he knows a thing or two about making his team hard to beat.
No one is arguing with his domestic record but we are too soft at a European level and defeats like this will be effing common place if he doesnt adapt his tactics. Statements like that are nonsense and if thats his attitude more batterings are on their way.

No one is saying we should be beating these teams but we roll over far too easy and it needs to improve.

no doubting the quality but suggests that lessons haven't been learned, that's all.

I agree. He needs to find a way to play with his identity but remaining compact

We'll get there at this level. Maybe not over two games.

I adore BR for what he's achieving at Celtic, but his team selections and tactics against the Champions League elite have been wrong.

He really needs to be more pragmatic and defensively minded.

I fear for us in Paris if he does not adapt. PSG could hit double figures

I think playing European teams comparable to us will help with that of sticking with the same approach that works so well domestically which would probably be the Europa League. Not really going to learn anything with PSG . Bayern and Barcelona

He means that if we're going to lose, then it'll be playing our own game. He's not saying he'd rather we lost.

So we will go out and change entirely what we do - indeed do something we have not done under him and we don't have the players to go defensive either?

That would be double figures.

the full quote was "BR: "I would rather lose a game in how we want to play & work as opposed to sitting in & defending for 90 minutes and still losing."

If we continually go to places like Paris and play defensively we'll never learn how to go there and win. Keep hammering the right way to play into them while continuously improving the team and the squad and we'll get 'there' more quickly than having to scrap and battle our way to it I think. And I'd rather see us at least trying to play decent football while getting there. But it'll take time.

Fair enough but his way wont work in anyway at all against the big teams and has yet to work.

If he keeps the same up we are gonna get beating after beating.

2 draws against City and a 3-0 win away to Anderlecht.

His tactics will work occasionally, unless you're talking only about PSG, Barca, Bayern. And I hate to break it to you, but they'll hump us no matter what BR does.

If you mean should BR alter team selections and tactics depending on opponent, circumstance, etc?

Then yes, of course he should

Was going to mention this. I would find it very hard to pick a team and or strategy against the "elite" with our group of players. An extra defender or a change of formation would still have us being beat by these teams :hmmm:

We played defensively in Barcelona. We had five at the back with two defensive midfielders and lost 7-0. We took the game to City in the next match, played how we normally play, and folk were rightly commending him on being brave and going out to attack, earning us a 3-3 draw.

It's far too simplistic to just say, "he needs to play differently and be more pragmatic".

I’ll go.

Spurs played 5-3-2 last night away to Real and came away with a draw that might have been a win. I know we’re not Spurs, but the set up is possible for us if we have everyone fit.

Gordon

Lustig, Simunovic, Boyata, Svietchenko, Tierney

Ntcham, Brown, McGregor

Sinclair

Dembele.

Of course we might still get beat, but it has to be worth experimenting with something different instead of shipping goals.

Man City was at home - totally different scenario

We didn’t press Barcelona on the night- we stood and admired plus DDV had a howler
